We have too many federal holidays

What is it, like 14 federal holidays now? Ridiculous.

I would be really interested to see what it "costs" the country/economy to have so many federal holidays. First off, hundreds of thousands of federal employees get the day off... which taxpayers pay for. Second, what does it cost businesses to have mail and banks and courthouses (permits) and who knows what else closed?

Maybe we are all suckers for not working for the fed...

not to mention most gov workers have an attitude like fuck the customer, they have to go to us and cant take their business anywhere else so we dont have to provide good customer service.

ehhh...yea that we always talk about if you hate your job so much than give it to somebody who really needs it.
So in the meantime we can't process any of our bank or postal stuff today which is really annoying.
But don't worry - there's lots of people who are now getting "unpaid" days off as the local govt offices budgets go down the toilet - of course unfortunately it includes our postal and police services as well

FYI China/Philippines have far more holidays and are productive. My guess is the reason America is having trouble in the world market is because fat lazy useless assholes sit around all day fucking off and "demanding" their jobs through unions thinking they are irreplaceable. Newsflash, 1 Chinese can do your job 3x faster, and 5x cheaper - and an Indian can support the Chinese's work. Those 2 guys will cost 1/2 or less than you with your medical benefits etc etc.

The issue isn't 12-14 federal holidays.

Do I have a special insight into federal holidays? Yes. We have a lot of them. Too many of them, in my opinion. What does this have to do with China or the Philippines? And yes, I agree with the union argument.

I 100 percent agree with you. Today I went to a place to register for a exam but forgot about the President's day. I took my 30 min to go there and it was just huge waste of time.

I agree with BradM.

The "costs" of the federal holidays can easily be compensated by successful employee motivation and increased productivity. So in some societies and economic cultures those costs actually turn into profit through the qualitative factors.

The news covered the change of schedule for California's driver license bureaus. People were showing up after taking days off to get their drivers license and whoops a nice sign on the front door informed them they were closed because of budget deficits.

I get a kick when these guys claim they do it faster better smarter.. So where is india's unix? ok, dos? Wait, how about the car? Its not a matter of motivation. Its people getting tired of being fucked over by corporations. Americans put all this time, energy and money into all this cool shit. Then some middle management fucks want to send it all over seas to raise the stock price for next quarters earnings. We did all the work and they get all the glory. Why? Because they live 15 to a shack, sleep on shit pits, and barely have running water, so of course they'll be happy to take your dime.
