what I'm doing here is just telling the truth, because I have never revealed to Pacificrack any relation between this username and my account with them, so brownosing can't possibly have anything to do with it.... just telling you I have had great service from them, the price is great, and I wouldn't hesitate to get more boxes with them, Pacificrack has been solid and great to deal withIf you can be assed, read HERE, even though unlike Mojohost, I retain professional etiquette and don't use boards to spread on lies to hide what is really going on behind the scenes. Which is what their owner resorted to doing.
Never hosted with PR, but seeing how many hosts fuck their customers in the ass is sick! And brownnosers like hypnotized mummies always gather round to kiss their asses. Good luck with your second box...

I know as a fact that Gotwebhost has a little more then just reselling OC3. You would wish you ever become that smart to manage that many servers at so many hosting provider.
Gotwebhost has a Unique position where not any other hosting provider can compete.

If there's anything that you can take away from this: Yes, his statement was quite brash, and he was being a bit of a jerk. If they offered backup solutions, and you opted out, you opted out of a RAID configuration, and you failed to keep a backup - there's relatively little that can be done without great expense to try to recover any data on the drive.
I've seen fully managed servers throwing errors that home-rolled (ISP made) scripts have failed to notice. I've also seen hosts go out of their way to attempt recovery when the problem is not due to negligence, but due to the customer trying to save a buck. If they spent 3 days trying to recover your data for a $xx.xx account, they've already lost money.
I'm not going to say they weren't rude - but if you didn't opt for a backup plan, or make your own - it's not feasible for every host to make redundant copies; disk space is cheap, but overselling is the norm for entry level accounts.Comment

1. The name server died and the server was spewing out a few
messages about controller problems
This means har drive failure??? maybe?? who the fuck cares
Oh because I didnt order a backup service with them.... i have to wait a week for them to decide what route they want to take??

for all we know the cable came unloose and he could have opened checkded ,pluged it back in and seen what the problem was..

Man its strange i have be in same position, had a hardware failure and I had a new machine in 1 hour with my backup on it again. Total off line 72 min. You really must have fucked them badly.

I have boxes with them, a+ support so far. Ihave my self a server there,, but i never had problems.
Is right.. have some big fees for hardware updates on servers..(10$/evey GB or ram per month is little more.. maybe the one time fees are better in this times)!
In the rest they are OK, as i said above.

I've had lots of failed drives under my belt and I can confirm that cloning can take a seriously long amount of time, particularly if the drive gets "stuck" on a group of sectors. If you have a few thousand sectors that are bad or marginal then it could take a significant amount of time to work through them all. I've had a SMART "short" test that was supposed to complete within 2 minutes take over an hour because the drive was so fucked up. (I let it go because I wanted to screen cap it.
)
mike-al, good luck finding a new host. If they've seen this thread then I wouldn't be surprised if they exercised their right to NOT do business with you.

I have 1 server at PacificRack now, everything is top-notch. My support tickets get answered in 5 mins tops, everything I want done on the server (I have a managed server) is completed in 30-60 mins.
And Chris is always available on ICQ too ;)

Now I never said they dont do ok hosting, I wouldnt have any way to know about that 1st hand other than it appears they get most of their clients by having to be the cheapiest deal around.
