I've had 4 friends attempt suicide, and I've told them exactly what I think.

No, suicide is not "cool". The culmination of untreated clinical depression is not a fashion accessory.
As for those who say it's "cowardly", you're all incredible imbeciles. People don't kill themselves because they're scared, they kill themselves because long-term depression can turn someone's life into a de facto hell.

I dont believe that 'Attempted' suicides are in the least bit cool. They cause stress on the people around the attemptee and waste valuable time of emergency services and doctors etc...
HOWEVER:

Don't ever attempt to go into any sort of mental health support work.
I am thrilled that you have never been so low to be able to contemplate killing yourself. However, expecting anybody that has actually reached that level or mental anguish to take ridicule from you isn't being a friend. Tough love is one thing...continuing their mental beating is another. If you don't know what that sort of mental hell feels like than count your blessings.
I hope I could never kill myself..I am pretty sure I couldn't but you never know what will happen in your life and tip you into a horror of a mental place. Mind you, I am pretty sure if I didn't do it after my husband died I never will but I sure as hell went into an amazingly dark place and I would not have wanted friends to ridicule me for being in that space.
We had the grown (but still young) son of close friends of our family reach such a level of mental illness that he parked his car on the side of the road, stood in the middle of a busy road..crouched down like he was waiting to run a race and then wait for a tractor trailer to approach..then he ran towards it and got hit. This was after years and years and years of his parents trying to help him with real manic depression. Real depression like that is not something people can just snap out off to see the reason of not killing themselves.Comment

The leading cause of suicide is clinical depression. Clinical depression is a serious mental illness. It's not someone "feeling blue" because of some personal problems.

No where did I say I verbally abuse people who have attempted suicide. I may think it's the stupidest thing ever, but I have never, not once, gone up to my friends who said they wanted too, or have tried to kill themselves and verbally abused them. I told them how I felt and that it was a stupid way out and that there are better ways to fix those problems.
I've even had 1 friend personally talk to me after hearing me tell him my opinion and say thank you, because he never realized how selfish he was being by trying to kill himself over something so stupid.

Someone close to my family committed suicide, and I think it was weak. He had a son for fucks sake and he left him behind like the selfish fuck he was. You give life to a beautiful son and when life sucks you decide to take the easy way out and kill yourself? Fuck that shit. Things like that can really piss me off.
