Nagra3 is coming, be sure to do your homework before buying an FTA that may be obsolete next month.

(Assuming you're using FTA for those kinds of purposes)

no one is really worried about nagra3...after N3 is released speculators give it a month tops before regular boxes are out of the dark. besides, i have an idea of what box i want and they are the most used around, just wanted to know if any FTAers are around gfy and what they recommend

I was an ftaer briefly... More for fun than necessity...

Not condoning it... But it was truthfully a 'hobby'... I just liked to play with the dishes and b0xes...
Sheepish learning curve, but easy when you get it...

I was a 'pansat' fan myself... I remember Nag2 and it was all doom and gloom...

Within HOURS of the new encryption, it was cracked...

Will be the same with Nag3... TOO MANY BOXES OUT THERE... Such a huge market for them... To much money invested for it to stop...

BUT... While Im making light of it... I can also truthfully say that I also had a fully paid up subscription to time Warner cable... And the box was just a fuck about... BUT SO EASY to set up ! Set the dish to 56 degrees, stand with your back to north, point it to '11 Oclock' BEEP BEEP BEEP !!! Signal and shows...

However, if your looking to use it as your main tv provider... DONT... Its not only wrong, but you'll get extended periods with no TV while they shuffle the keys from time to time... But if you are looking at it as a hobby... Then yeah ! Great fun LOL

Why dont I do it anymore? Because Im no longer in the states... Im in Europe now and have Fully paid 'SKY TV' anyway... So not worth the messing about !

ThatGuyInTheCorner... great! I do have a paid sub to cable (cox) and this will be for fun, i am going to do a basic sat / non motorized install first and then move to motorized as i get better

            heres a post i found on ftaforums.org

"Hello! Welcome to FTAforums! What you need to get started watching Free-To-Air is:

            Satellite Dish
            Cables
            Dish Mount
            Receiver (HUGE Variety of choices)
the knowledge to set all of it up CORRECTLY

if you are lacking on the last one i suggest calling a local satellite installer and asking if they do Free-To-Air installations."

between him and you it helps to get an idea a lot

im assuming i can hook up to certain satellites and receive their block of channels (diff countries, etc) sounds interesting! ..

im looking at the nfusion nova and the viewsat ultra lite...

good news on nag3.. thats funny about doom and gloom...as someone else said with money anythings possible.. wonder how many people will be on the inside in getting this new hack out?

Nagra3 is already out on Bell. that's been down for months now. Hopefully it hits dishnet soon so they release the fix.

I have a viewsat ultra lite, it works good if you want a cheap receiver. Missing some features like component out, digital audio out, no PVR support.

              Stay away from coolsat.

Personally I would wait until dishnet goes down before I bought a new receiver at this point to see how things shake out.

Nfusion sounds risky to me. It requires an internet connection. Just asking to get yourself busted there I think.

Dunno mate... Like I said, Ive been out of it for a good few years... I just checked out my old FTA forum hangout... Its not even there anymore.,...

I guess, BH, I am 'old school' fta... My era was when you had to really understand what you were doing, and connect via serial ports to your PC and use strange software programs to interact with the receiver etc...

                Then, it got popular... Overnight.

You could just save a bin file to a SD card, stick it in your box and do everything via menus... It got really really simple, and the scene EXPLODED... Thats also around the same time as when I left the USA...

But yeah. As far as I know, Its DEAD easy now... Really is...

Check out the NFusion boxes. They have an ethernet port to automatically update the keys. Work great
