Niche paysite vs. Other paysites

Can a small niche site ever make the money a good movie, or general site can?

Do the rebills make up for the fact that not so many people want to even join up.

I mean, do niche paysites retain members better than regular sites, saying they're both have good quality members area and are frequently updated.

Any experiences?

Ahh.. but that leaves to the second question:

How can people get a lot of traffic to a small niche site?
I'm pretty sure that some very small niche will not get the same amount of hits from galleries, and the regular way of getting traffic, than a 'general', or 'teen' site would. Of course I won't go down that road before I can afford thousands and thousands of dollars to be put in ppc and other traffic purchases.

But what good FREE ways of generating niche traffic are there?

So far I've come up with these:

Galleries
Free sites
Avs's
Make your own join4free site and mailing list

..more neat ideas?
I'm just planning ahead here, so I don't have anything to show for you curious bastards yet.

well, off the bat i'd say you need to know the niche personally. if you do, then you'll know where those interested, are looking - and where you should be trying capture traffic from.

I take it your talking about a small niche paysite?
There's no secret to it. You build you own traffic sources (TGP, AVS, galleries) within the niche that you want to sell. You studied that traffic hard...see how it reacts to certain designs and keywords on your traffic "hub". Work work work till you find a profitable way of marketing your small niche paysite to your surfers. It much more then just putting up a banner.

Most people think tgp/gallery traffic is worthless. But if you studied your surfers, how they surf your site, what they click on and why, converting them should be cake. Knowledge of surfer activity on your site in my opinion is 100% the most critical...wether it's a paysite or TGP.

Without that information and knowledge, your just marketing "blindly" to the surfer...which usually results on low clickthroughs and very low sales. Now all of a sudden, the traffic is worthless. And no one will ever think their marketing skills are worthless, so we'll just blame the traffic.

just my

Very very good point about 'knowing your niche personally.'

I stated it a little differently above, but it's pretty much the same idea. See, Quite is brilliant in this area. He know's exactly what triggers the surfers interests thus landing himself the sales.

Triggering surfer response is truly an art form.

Well, I would say that quiets sites greatest strength is the content. The design is nice and clean, obviously converts well, but it's all about the content. It's fantastic. I think the content really sells the site.

But I do agree entirely with what's been said here. Very hard to market a niche when you don't know how to get that niches surfers interested.

As for free traffic sources - they're an utter bitch these days.

Cheers,
Backov

I run a niche site - http://www.fareastmedia.com - "cute girl spankings".

I can't expect I will ever retire from it. However, many of the customers are fantastically loyal and buy every product ever sold. In the history of the web site, I have had one chargeback.

Quite obviously a niche site can?t generate the amount of traffic a ?mainstream? site can, but on the other hand you have a greater chance of becoming the dominating player in a smaller market.

Quiet did you start your site as an AVS then move it over to a paysite after it started doing well?

Do you recommend doing that today?

You are so correct.

I would like to add that if it is a micro fetish you will have higher listings on the major search engines because the niche is not so saturated !
