    So, British folks..what did your MP claim for then?

    Mine is John Austin - http://news.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/bsp...s/html/242.stm

    John Austin claimed for a second home in central London despite the fact that our area is 20 minutes on the train from London Bridge. A journey I would say nearly the majority of of his constituents either make daily or have at some point. No wonder he is 'retiring' at the next election.

    I would find out more but so much of it is blacked out.

      The Deputy Chief Whip and Labour MP for Rutherglen and Hamilton West received £86,565 in second home expenses for his Westminster flat between 2004 and 2008. Most of these claims were mortgage interest payments of £1,000 a month, council tax and ground rent payments.

          Claim: The MP for Erith and Thamesmead claimed more than £10,000 for the redecoration of his London flat, which was just 11 miles from his main home, before selling it for a £30,000 profit, the Daily Telegraph reported. After buying a new property, he claimed £10,000 in stamp duty and other expenses incurred in the move and a further £15,000 for a new bathroom, kitchen, carpets, and appliances.

          Response: Mr Austin said the report was "inaccurate and misleading" and said he was seeking legal advice.

          Guess they will have to be more skillful at hiding it all now.

          What are the average incomes of these guys?

          The guy from my old district only claimed Ł106,00 expenses in a year

              Something like £64k isn't it? There is no way he needed a second home. Most people in Erith and Thamesmead can't even afford one.

                  That seems pretty fair, he needed a second home, and rent for a London flat would have cost around that. It the ones from the home counties who could commute that took the piss with second homes.

                          It doesn't shock me that an MP from Scotland needed a London base to do is job in London. Somebody IN London (Erith and Thamesmead ARE London) needing a second home in London is criminal.
