Do you remember where you were exactly when......

Where were you when you realized the US was under attack at 9/11 and what where you first words/thoughts? I don't mean when the first aircraft hit the towers but when you realized it was an attack...

I was actually up in the air, performing a flight back into Brussels from Punta Cana. We recieved a message from Flight Ops, i remember the message exactly: "US under attack, close door, only flightcrew in deck, radio com zero please." First thing i said was "Do we inform pax?", captain told me not to.....

It was about 10 minutes later we got a message airplanes where involved in the attack, at first i thought it was a military attack from Iran or something.

We informed the cabin crew, only when we were in Brussels we found out what happened, about 5 hours later.

Yes.

At the time, I was still working in telco. I was at Ameritech, and I was in the grievance (I was a union steward). I had a text pager at the time instead of a cell. While in the middle of arguing the case, my pager went off.

I read it. Stopped. Just sat there quiet.

The others asked what was wrong? I told them. Then their cells went off with people calling them. I still remember the manager saying this, "Kinda puts this bullshit into perspective".

I took the 2nd half of the day off, and went home and watched the TV. I was stunned to say the least, and simple shock is the best I can explain it. I then went and drank myself into oblivion.

I was on my way to NY City and had to turn around and go back to NJ. I still don't like to talk about it.

I was in college, I left a class and walked out into the hall to see people crowded around all of the televisions. I walked up to see what the big deal was just as the second plane hit the building. Then an announcement was made over the p.a. and classes were canceled. I'll never forget that shit, or the way it made me feel.

I was at home. I got up, made coffee as usual, turned on the computer, started my morning updates, and opened a browser to GFY and saw Sjayne's thread about a plane hitting one of the towers,

went to the tv and turned on cnn as they showed the second plane hitting.

The rest of the day was spent contacting friends and relatives in the US, talking to family by phone, posting online, and watching the horror unfold further.

I had just dropped my daughter off at school and had pulled into the grocery store parking lot. As I was about to go in, I heard Stern talking to a guest on the radio saying "oh my god, oh my god a plane has struck one of the towers"...I remember the guest, who knew Stern brushing it off, not believing him...and me wondering "is this a joke"...and then Stern said "You can see the twin towers from your balcony, walk over to your window and look out, what do you see...the guy said hang on.....and then you heard him say "OMG, OMG, it's true, it's on fire, I have to go" and then you heard a click. I drove straight home, turned on the tv and watched as the second plane hit.

I have a lot of online friends....one had a husband working at the twin towers and another friend had one that worked at the Pentagon...both survived....but they day was scary.

I was building a huge garage at my friends house for him to keep his muscle car collection in. Another friend who lived next door came out of his house and yelled over that they were flying planes into buildings now and kind of shrugged it off. BTW he was the most self absorbed person I've ever known. He was on his way to work and didn't say anything else. I figured someone had flown a little Cessna into a high rise or something.

I went to my sister's house for lunch and she was freaked out and all she could say was " it's just horrible " as she pointed to the TV.
I sat down and found out real quick the seriousness of the situation
