You can change the nameservers with your registrar to point to another location.

Umm cloudflare is supposed to be good. You edit your name servers to theirs. The idea is that in the event if downtime or a ddos attack your site stays inline.

The truth is, on my sites at least cloudflare doesn't work like that.

most hosters worth their salt will offer failover.

Meaning, they constantly ping your box ( or do a http request - configurable) and as soon as it stops responding will assign your ip to your reserve server.

It's much faster and simpler than dns.
