I have bamboo floors in my house.
Carpet is nasty, it gets smelly, unless it is an area rug you really can not clean it, the fiber always ends up in my axle eventually, and it is harder to push on.

Though I did just put that industrial type school carpet into my vacant rental. Was about the only thing I could find that was less expensive to replace than the security deposit.

          Good stuff.

I ripped up the old carpet in my office, basement, and entry way as well as all bedrooms. I am redoing the hardwoods in upstairs hallway, master, and 2nd BR. The third BR upstairs I am putting in industrial/commerical carpet. That will be my streaming radio booth, and webcam-chat studios for the girls. Or second office.

I used the $5000.00 cash back on house to tile the entry way to front door, and the kitchen. I also re-carpet the basement (commercial burber), and then my 4th BR (main office) with commercial grade carpet. Too dark, but it's holding up nice. It is like 900-1000 sq feet of carpet area in the basement.

I will recarpet the living room upstairs. But going to restore the hardwoods, and tile everywhere else. Master, 2nd BR, both BATH, etc.

I do mostly have issue with the pushing part and the tiny little strings that get caught in my front axles after awhile.
I liked bamboo because it was very affordable, easy to install, can be sanded down like hardwoods, and of course it has a long ass warranty.

I can honestly say I have seen bamboo flooring.

                  Yup.

Really though it is a pain in the ass to clean the front axles of your wheelchair. It is very annoying to hop into bed or on the couch, tear your chair apart and sit there cutting that shit out. Plus you feel damn vulnerable when your sitting someplace and you have disabled your chair.

Then tile in bathroom because I use sort of a roll in style shower stall almost. There is no real lip. I do have a bench in the shower. Yet water is bound to spray out some no matter what. Tile is just a better option.

My dog though just loves carpet and thinks that shit is magical. She goes fucking crazy when she gets let out on some.

Probably should, since we are pretty much redoing them completely.

The previous owner had carpeted over all the hardwoods with the exception of the 2nd larger BR upstairs. That one was half assed done. They must have used a drum sander because the floor has these weird grooves.

We pulled up the carpet in the master, it was disgusting. We did get the floors partically redone, but I will be bringing in a professional next month to do those two BR, and the hallway.

I am ripping up the hardwood between the kitchen and LR. Going to use the matching tile of kitchen to keep continuity. Same tile in entry way, carpet stairs, tile top of stair, and kitchen before hitting the hardwood.

What is good to put in a basement other than carpet? Someone told me you can't use real hardwood in a basement due to moisture or something. I don't like the look of most laminates.

I have a bi-level, and live in Michigan. So anything other than carpet would not be good. It's already a bit nippy down here. My office, with the door closed, is fine for the most part because of the all the computers, T1, and so forth keeping it about 10-15 degrees warmer than the rest of the downstairs.

The burber I picked up was very nice. It has a pattern to help against the dirt, and I hired a cleaning lady to come in twice a month to keep up on the cleaning shit.

Next week, we are pulling all the paneling in the basement to put some insulation back there. Eventually I will replace the waist high paneling with either Wayne's Coating, or just simple drywall. I have not decided. But we have to do something to control the cold down here.

Although this level is mainly my office, big entertainment room with exercise equipment and family room type of set up, laundry, and then 2nd BATH.

Hopefully putting some insulation will help behind the paneling. The next step will be replacing the windows. They look like 1960's windows. This house was built in 1967, and even had a trash compactor (kitchen)! Which I am ripping out as well next week, tiling under it, and getting in the new range and hood.

                                      True dat playa.

The upstairs does not get that bad. But down here is a bit nippy even for me. EVERY woman has complained, or remarked on it. LOL! I typically have house shoes, and socks on. So I do not notice it much. In the kitchen, the heater vent transfers heat nicely. So the kitchen, and BR, floor stays warm.

We have to finish the recess lighting upstairs next week as well so we can finish the insulation in the attic. There is some up there, but it's that cardboard shit, and half the area is missing ANY coverage at all.

We are going to get some fiberglass rolls and throw em down up there once the recess is done. That way we are not having to keep going back up in there. I had all three upstairs BR's and hallways done a few weeks back before Vegas.

We still have to finish the upstairs BR, and LR cans. Plus rewire the fire alarms to code. Hard wire, with batt. back up and get that pipe and vent done for the kitchen hood, and then we should be done in the attic.

The downstairs of my house is tile. Upstairs is all carpet.

I don't like hardwoord; It makes me feel cheap. Instead, down stairs I have the big wide tiles.

Hard wire, with batt. back up and get that pipe and vent done for the kitchen hood, and then we should be done in the attic.
for your attic look at the foam its better and will really save on heating and ac Ive heard.

almost 4000 sq feet of tile, i laid, inside and the patios

try to get through body porcelain if your not on a budget

the bamboo hardwood floors are nice (or any hardwood) as long as its not the "floating floor" kind but the kind you have to nail down

tile is hard on your feet if you don't wear shoes, hardwood is a bit more forgiving, but not as good in bathrooms or basements like evildicks problem

carpet just sucks all the way around, like ASM said, gets filthy even though you might not see it.

cat can puke on the tile = no big deal, on carpet, yikes!!!

you are so right, I got carpet in one floor downstairs. Its in our bedroom and its a berber. I spent over 300 dollars to get it cleaned and it still looks like shit. My oldest dog who died last year had a hard time his final month and the stains are over it are awful. Later this year want to get either hardwood or laminate in there.

what gets me is most restaurants all use carpet, especially the chains like outback, ruby Tuesdays and those

i think it must be for insurance reasons, (slip and fall??)

after a few years it just stinks

that's like the last place i would put carpet, in a restaurant with people dropping food and drinks steak sauce etc..

never understood that, at least put textured tile where it's more slip proof if that's the problem

i tell you one thing with tile floors, when you do mop them, make sure you don't use too much soap and make sure you get it all rinsed off good

i have almost busted my ass a few times with wet feet on a freshly washed floor

Yeah, we looked at the foam option. But with all the construction both now, and later, I opted to look at the 'rolls' we can throw down in the attic, and behind the paneling in the basement.

Easiest all the way around, and should be an improvement over what is going on now.

I am finding that out as well.

When I was a kid, we had some carpet, but the bulk was tile, and hardwoods. Back then I hated it. Cold to walk on, sliding on area rugs, etc.

I have to say, after being in the new place. I am actually preferring the hardwood, tile myself for the reason you mentioned.... ease of cleaning. Plus better for my allergies.

I spent over 300 dollars to get it cleaned and it still looks like shit. My oldest dog who died last year had a hard time his final month and the stains are over it are awful. Later this year want to get either hardwood or laminate in there.

I don't like hardwoord; It makes me feel cheap. Instead, down stairs I have the big wide tiles.
The entry way, and kitchen are those over larger tiles. I like them as well. My old place that those smaller tiles, and I did not care for them.

The upstairs BATH has large tiles as well, and it looks like someone's self-help home project. That BATH needs to be completely gutted and redone. Tiles and everything. There is a nice jacuzzi tube (if you like that kinda shit) up there. But that BATH is around a $5000-7500 redo.

The downstairs BATH needs complete overhaul as well. It has those shit sticky tile things on the floor, and the shower stall probably should be replaced, as well as vanity. We price it to be around a $3000.00 redo. I will have REAL, nice tile for both BATH and once done.

This summer will look at a new roof, and fencing in the yard. Front and back before getting reappraised, and looking to get an equity line from the CU. I was going to replace the aluminum with vinyl but based on the back porch set up, I may scrap that idea. Vinyl would melt with where I am planning to put the grill.

They do not have some dirty ass carpet pad underneath them breading the next plague. You can take them outside each spring and give them a good beating and bath. Plus honestly they just look way cooler than wall to wall carpet.
