Fitty T shirts Going to Hell :Graucho

Scott McD 01-26-2009 10:19 AM

Bought about 2 or 3 t-shirts from the site, but hardly ever wear them.

They're not exactly suitable for going to a bar/club etc... :1orglaugh

plus, I have 2-3 of their shirts...not the greatest quality shirts and the sizes were all off, my XL was more like a medium, I can't even wear it now that it has shrunk...I never ordered again simply because I didn't know what I was going to get

Interesting.

Wasn't there a story on CNN once about the owner's family getting poisoned after making the shirts where the guy was using the Koran as toilet paper?

I thought I remember reading about that, unless it was all a hoax.

edit: found a link about it:

tshirthell wont even load for me... is it just my shitty ISP or is the site down already?

Just a quick note to everyone who says they didn't make any money.

Several years ago I sold funny baby shirts and used the same fulfillment company as T Shirt hell. I can tell you the amount of shirts they sold was crazy. The owner added a new building just to handle the t shirt hell demand.

But the funny t shirt business really changed about three years ago and I don't think T shirt hell changed to meet the market. They tried Torso Pants but it wasn't what people were looking for.

True, people may not have worn them much after the first day but they sold a ton of them for a few years and made a shit load of money.

Same with the baby shirts I sold, very few people actually made their babies wear them, they were bought as gifts and as a joke.

Snake Doctor 01-26-2009 12:51 PM

Bah....great marketing gimmick.

Make people buy shirts now because they think they'll never be able to get them again....get the lookie loos off the fence so to speak.

Then after it's over, say the demand to stay open was so overwhelming they decided to keep going.

Kind of like a furniture store going out of business.

What a shame.

If anyone from Tshirthell reads this message - contact me if you're looking to do an asset sale.

Cheers,

Brad

Haven't we seen some of those shirts on the smoking gun mug/booking shots?

Dude, you need to post a warning before posting shit like that so I put my beverage down before reading it.

Fucken iced tea through the nostrils.

Daddy Big Nuts 01-26-2009 03:46 PM

It sucks man....I always looked forward to the "new shirt notification" emails!

Sort of. Print on demand popped up everywhere and new shirt designs where stolen instantly and put up on 300 Cafepress shops. But that really wasn't it.

Less literal shirts where coming into fashion. Shirts with abstract or nonsense prints and designs.

Novelty t shirts go in boom and bust cycles. But some people don't realize the profit margin, especially in mail order sales. When you are doing 10K plus shirts, the cost per shirt with printing is under $1. Plus, with a volume shipping account, your shipping is around $.80 cents per order yet you charge $5.00. It really becomes a cash cow very quickly if you have the volume.

Aren't they also famous for fake publicity stunts like this one? I'm pretty sure they've done similar things like this in the past.

And they will do it yet again, because it works.

dial 02-16-2009 04:48 PM

I wonder if they really sold 100,000 shirts the past few weeks
