School has blocked games, torrents, etc, how can i get around this?

In an attempt to halt the spread of viruses, my university has blocked many aspects of our internet connection and in the process, have took out things such as torrents, remote desktop, games (like warcraft), etc.

I dont think they simply blocked the port because if I change the connecting port it still doesnt work.

Is there any way to get around this? For example me and my girlfriend talk all the time on CamFrog, but that is blocked now sad.gif. I have a fast dedicated server located in the USA. Can I somehow connect through there and get around this? What software would I need and how can I do it?

I tried using a socks4/5 proxy but that does not solve the problem. Do I need something like VPN?

get a server pretty close to you (lower ping) run SSH, use putty to generate a proxy, use a program to forward traffic over the proxy, profit

Easy solution, just change schools. Credits transfer so it should be no problem.

Otherwise you can set up a PC somewhere else or get a windows server and use remote desktop connection. I used to use that all the time from clients offices to my parents house

Using a VPN worked for me in the past but using the ssh, putty and sockscap is a more advantage method that also works
