at least a house has comparables, square footage, etc. Every domain value tool i've ever seen was way the fuck wrong

But it gives you a ball park at least. i say appraise with 2 or 3 and take the mean amount as your price.

It's kind of hard to value something which in one way or another, actually doesn't exist.

A domain is computer generated, it has not visual value as such, the content presented on that domain is also computer generated. the only real value of a domain is it's visits.

I look at domains like museums. if people come and pay you get revenue. you can have the best museum in the world with the best exhibits inside(content) but if you don't get people coming through the door(genuine hits) it may aswell not exist.

well do the easy practical stuff first.

1. estimate type-in traffic for generic works or phrases
2. check major search engines for how many entries they have
which contain these words or phrases

Moniker does for a fee but it is worth it of your serious about buying or selling a larger $$ domain

Paying for a domain appraisal is about the equivalent of paying someone to tell you how good you look. Asking for someone's opinion on how much your domain is worth is the equivalent of asking someone how good you look. Bottom line a domain is worth whatever the happy medium is between buyer and seller at that current moment and time.
