Agreed . . . or their version of Kentucky Woman. I used to go to this local pizza joint when I was a teen, and there was a jukebox that you could get 3 songs for a quarter. I always played:

1. Kentucky Woman - Deep Purple
2. Easy Living - Uriah Heep
3. Man, this was like 1969 or 1970, I am surprised I remember two of the three.

It'll come to me. . . . time passes .. . . . I am leaning towards All Along the Watchtower. I am also thinking I may have rotated the third song and that is why all these Hendrix songs are popping into my head.

Great stuff

im an utterly surprised by some of the responses in this thread. specially by people posting ballads as "hard rock" songs? wtf

seriously like 50% of the replies just show people have no idea what music is.

Nicky 01-08-2009 02:20 AM

I will now officially never take your opinion on music seriously. Ever.

PornMD 01-08-2009 02:54 AM

Cannibal Corpse - Skull Full of Maggots :thumbsup
I'd find something good by Slayer too but too lazy.

tranza 01-08-2009 07:00 AM

Black dog - Led Zepellin

Rebel D 01-08-2009 08:27 AM

More proof that there is no accounting for taste.

Since getting more than 2 (at most) people to ever agree on "best", I decided to with a title that was a bit easier to quantify. :upsidedow

I'll take "people who like stupid songs who think other peoples stupid songs are stupid" for $500, Alex.

You need to change chords.

jakethedog 01-08-2009 11:30 AM

Just about anything from Led Zep .. and Black Sabbath Paranoid has to rate up there somewhere ..

MetaMan 01-08-2009 11:31 AM

LMAO

Best response so far!!

There is no way I could pick one favorite song in any catagory. There are some great ones in here though.

blonda80 01-08-2009 02:07 PM

Sweet Child O Mine

GNR

Hands down best guitar solo ever. NO ONE can emulate that solo I have seen many try to pull it off but NO ONE has Slash's tone.

Drake 01-08-2009 03:16 PM

Too many to name but as far as amazing straight up hard rock songs, these come to mind (maybe I'm just conventional):

Zepplin - black dog (or rock n roll)
Sabbath - Paranoid
Hendrix - Purple Haze
GnR - Welcome to the jungle
AC/DC - Thunderstruck

I'd have a very different list for ballads and best metal songs (yes Sabbath is metal but paranoid is hard fast rock IMO).

danevans 01-08-2009 03:30 PM

Can't name one, but to name a few personal favorites:
Uriah Heep - Easy Livin'
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Billy Idol - White Wedding, Rebel Yell
Motorhead - Rock N Roll
Metallica - Seek & Destroy, Battery, lots more..
Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark

Well a combination of Hendrix and Dylan is a tough contestant for sure.

Deep Purple - too many great ones that are never mentioned, besides the whole Machinehead or huge ones like Fireball for example "Bloodsucker", that song always gives me shivers - best if live, but they don't play it too often, cause Ian has to be in top form to sing that one.

If I should name one - my favourite would probably be "Layla" - the original version from Derek and The Dominos, the song just always standed out, it has a whole lot of feeling and emotion in it.

Yep, pretty much sums it up. Blackmore RULES!

Props to 'Welcome to the Jungle' as someone here mentioned though. It is a great song.
