Your neighborhood liquor store owner must be an A-Rab.

9 times out of 10, if you hear someone using the word boss in that way it means they spent some time behind bars.

GAMEFINEST 01-06-2009 11:27 PM

I have this guy who owns a little clean-up biz and he and a couple of guys come and get my car every week to wash it and then bring it back when they're through.

He always calls me "boss lady", which I fucking HATE. He washes and vacuums my damn car- it's not like I have him on payroll. And he's white, which makes it even creepier. I've considered telling him to cut the shit, but then I'm afraid he'll jack-off on my leather seats and rub it in, or something.

It's a common term for guards in jail.

Same awesome dood for years, very personable compared to a lot of liquor store shitheads I've dealt with.

"Boss" used in that context goes back nearly 100 years.

BVF 01-07-2009 10:19 AM

Also, in Nigeria, it is a sign of respect to call someone "oga" or "boss"....

"Boss" is often a phrase used by X-cons, for some god awful reason.

I saw on cops one time a guy called an officer boss and without hesitation the cop asked where he did his time and for what.

brassmonkey 01-29-2009 03:20 PM

i dont like that shit call me sir or master

PornMD 01-29-2009 03:20 PM

"Boss" and "big guy" I can't fucking stand (I'm 6'0 210 - they'd be calling like 30% of guys "big guy" if I fit the bill), and it's ALWAYS white guys saying it to me which I just don't get...I never speak up about it because I know they PROBABLY don't mean it in a derogatory sense but still. It'd be so tempting to respond to being called "boss" with "...yea, I am the boss mutha fucka, KNEEL!" Haven't encountered chief, sport, or champ too much...chief always makes me think of Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting.

I call people dude and I think most people from Cali especially southern Cali can't help it. And I doubt any of us knows how that originated as something to call people either.

The black version of 'big guy' is 'big mane'...pronounced MANE, not man...

example...

I was in the county back in October on a bullshit domestic violence charge....I only ate one of my two sugar cookies...I was on the way to the trash and another convict said, "You gonna eat that cookie BIG MANE?".......

In the Peoples Fucking Republic of Ontario, I have to buy my booze from some pokey Government owned booze monopoly -- where they never have what I want, and are always shut whenever I want to buy booze :(

One of the advantages of living next door to Quebec is cheap beer in grocery stores.

Ozarkz 01-30-2009 02:40 PM

Boss? No. Daddy? Yes after I slap his ass and call him Susan.
