The Library Porn issue is back!!!!

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...2002Nov12.html

What do you think?.....

I for one say they go ahead & block it...no one uses their credit card on a public library computer for porn.

On the other hand....it is infringing upon freedom.

I think part of the problem, at least as I understand it, is the fact that the filters currently available are not sophisticated enough to tell the difference between porn and legitimate web content. For example if I wanted to search for information on gay and lesbian relationships, filters would block most sites because of those two keywords. Another example I saw cited was breast cancer. Some filters would block sites because of the word breast. These are both legitimate inquiries but because of the filters you would not be able to access the information.

Our editor has told me stories of visiting the pub library in NY and being surprised by the blatant porn viewing going on at computer station after computer station, while she walked down the isle to the book section she wanted. People just openly perusing porn, without any qualms at all -- way to go!

So I say NO FUCKING FILTERING, regardless of people paying for it or not at the time. Besides, they might discover my site while at the library and then go home and cc order some hot dick pics of their own, for private viewing, later on.

Although I say they should block it for the purposes of masking it from kids...

but then again there are non-porn sites that are blocked by this shit... I disagree with that... so what they need to do is either develope software that will block only porn, or keep anyone 18 and under off the net...

Parents should look after their kids. It's as simple as that.
The internet is a dangerous place, not only filled with porn and violence, but also with pedophiles and such in chatrooms and lots of other bad stuff.
So, responsible parents should not let young children surf the internet by themselves.

But should you have to worry about your kids while they're at the library too? I am torn. I guess it should probably be blocked. Too many kids there to risk having a wide open internet connection.

I say block it. I don't think its appropriate for people to surf porn from a public libary.

If we don't police ourselves someone will just lay down the law in a way we don't like. Best to compromise a little.

Besides, who the fuck would join a paysite from a libary?

But who should decide what should be blocked? And who should determine what is porn & what is sexual education?

I wish I had a way of redirecting traffic from a library computer the fuck away from my sites...90% of it is going to be underage freeloader traffic....I'm here to make money, not give away from free porn to people who don't even have the capacity to pay...

Ofcourse people should also have to worry about their kids in a library! The fact that the kid is in a library, will not make the big man in the chatroom who 'loves' little kids go away.
Besides that, the idea that libraries should only contain child-safe stuff is plain ridiculous. Should literature containing sex be banned from libraries? Ofcourse not!
Parents should wake the fuck up and realize that in todays society, children need protection and guidance.

I believe in freedom, but I always come back to the example of a stripclub or adult bookstore. Kids cant get in there because they are carded at the door. I see this as an example why free hardcore porn sites wont be able to operate how they are now in the future.
