Alot of NFL coaches are going to get fired soon IMO

I remember the offseason after Jacksonville and Carolina went to the AFC and NFC championship games, respectively, in their 2nd year in the league as expansion teams....a shitload of coaches and GM's got fired.

Owners didn't want to hear the shit about the "5 year plan" when two teams just proved you could do it in 2 years.

After what happened in Miami, Atlanta, and Baltimore this year, owners don't even want to hear about the 2 or 3 year plan....apparently the right coach can turn shit around in just 1 year.

Heads are gonna roll.

Lions are on the 50 year plan and like the owner ford they won't change a losing strategy just cause that's the 'in thing' to do!

Its going to be very hard to renew my season tickets this year if the Bills keep Jauron. Like the Lions the owner believes in cheap coaches and any season 6-10 or better is good.

Sad thing is that you get fired from one team to be hired by another losing team that just fired their own losing coach. Why?

Here lately it seems that first time head coaches are getting most of the gigs, rather than the retreads.

Although sometimes retreads can be a good thing if they're a few years removed from their last head coaching gig. (Belichick being the best example of this)

Also, hiring whomever Al Davis just fired seems to be a pretty good strategy as well.

I've often wondered that. A great example is Norv Turner. He was the head coach of the redskins where he went 49?59?1. Then the head coach of the raiders where he went 9-23. So after losing at two previous jobs he is hired by the chargers where he has gone 19-13, but he inherited a super bowl caliber team and this year they went 8-8 and only got into the playoffs because they are in a shitty division.

It seems that guys can under-perform over and over again and still get jobs. It often amazes me.

A lot of good young coaches coming out. Yeah, they are good and young this season, but next year any one of them can have a 5 win season. The league is just so unpredictable. Which makes me wonder how those guys who give you sports gambling tips over 1-900 numbers can make any money? Are there idiots out there who really think that anyone can have any clue as to who is going to win an NFL game? Its ridiculous.

I've never been a Norv Turner fan...he's just the offensive version of Dave Wannstedt. (offensive in terms of the part of the team that has the quarterback....not offensive in terms of people being offended)

None of Jimmy Johnson's assistant coaches have really amounted to shit. They rode his coattails to get head coaching jobs but none of them had his eye for talent which is really what made him successful.

Anyhoo, the Chargers were kinda screwed because Schottenheimer leaving was a spur of the moment thing, and when you have a team that's already ready for prime time, that's not when you want to be hiring a rookie head coach....so Norv was really the best they could do.

They should have just let Marty hire his son to be the O-coordinator and given him one more year to try to win a SB with that roster. Then at least if it didn't work out they'd have had time to do a real coaching search.
A.J. Smith let his ego get in the way of that decision IMHO.

Norv is a great O coordinator, but that doesn't always mean you make a good head coach. I think there are a million cases in the NFL where a coordinator got a head coaching job and didn't do very well. I do agree though, when you have a team that is right on the cusp of competing for a super bowl you don't want to bring in a rookie head coach.

I wonder how much money is currently being tossed at Bill Cower. I read he turned down the Browns, you have to think the Jets will make him an offer.

Shanahan got canned in Denver.

I didn't see that one coming, although I agree with the move. Both he and Gruden have been getting by on their reputation too much lately without producing.

3 years without a playoff appearance and the coach and GM should be toast IMO...you can completely blow up a roster and rebuild a team in 3 years.

Gruden made the playoffs last year, but they stumbled there at 9-7 and got owned at home in the playoffs.
Really he just had a good first year, with Tony Dungy's roster, and it's been downhill for the Bucs ever since.

That kind of shocked me too. Shanahan is well thought of in Denver, but they have floundered since Elway and I guess eventually all good things come to an end.

Damn, looks like some folks from the NFL were reading this thread, because Gruden just got the axe too.

I really called it this year
