ty just trying to simplify it as much as possible during this whole thread...people are loyal to their animals as they should be and i respect that...hell i quoted myself saying one of my chihuahuas bit me in the face and he is a great dog...but they are animals and have instincts that cannot always be controlled regardless of training...it's generally not their fault, it is ours for keeping them as pets and expecting them to forget things that are programmed into their genes (the good ones that go bad)...then there are the ones that are outright abused/mistreated/trained to be bad...some may never act out but the instincts are still there regardless, and the possibility always exists:thumbsup

yes all dogs can be harmless. yes its the owners fault when a dog gets loose. the only problem with pit bulls is that they are known for just "snapping", and when they do its not pretty. they are number 1 on the attack list. i have two cute huskies, ironically i think they are number 3 on the bite list. if you wanna see a scary dog but one that is a complete puss at times, get a husky. one of my workers in the construction industry has a pit. he loves the thing to death and said my dog could never do that, until one day he noticed that anything that runs from the dog, the dog then tries to catch it and then once he catches it, plays a little to hard with it and tries to kill it. he said the dog got loose one day and started running for a little kid, his heart about stopped praying to god that kid didnt run from the dog, for fear the dog would eat the kid alive. luckily the kid didnt run. bottom line with pit bulls. just be carefull around them and watch them as they get older and grouchier, thats when they can be more aggressive.

they are some of the most easy dogs to train and very smart. All of the pitts i ever had, wouldnt hurt anything, if you didnt want them to. If you raise the dog to be mean then its gonna be mean. :2 cents:

Pitbulls behave well, but still they have the killer instincts. I wouldn't let a child near one.

It's a common misconception that pitbulls lock their jaws. They have no physiological ability to lock their jaws, they only have a very strong will not to let go once they get ahold of their target.

As for the breed itself it was indeed bred to fight. However, there is no reason you can't own a pitbull or any other fighting breed and not have them under control. A strong minded dog is a very powerful tool in the right hands during the right circumstances.

The only reason you hear about pitbulls in the news and not smaller dogs is because pitbulls tend to do more damage when people fail in controlling them. Don't blame the breed, blame the people controlling the breed.

maybe that's true, but my Lab has been around a few pitbulls, and the only time he's ever been snapped at or attacked(twice) is by a mini Dacshund and by a Golden Retriever. One common denominator in both incidents was that the owners were actually kind of dicks, and not apologetic at all, almost blaming my sweet dog for inciting the attack. The apple does not fall far from the tree.

I've learned to watch the person with the dog -- If they seem like someone you'd want to avoid, then the dog should probably be avoided also. I've found that I'm right most of the time when I follow this principle.

I got one of his books for christmas and thanks to his TV-show me and my woman have been able to rehabilitate a golden retriever relatively fast. He don't retrieve shít but he's a good protection dog and that works just fine with me.

I have a Boxer/Pitt mix (Zango the dog someone tossed out of a car 1 year ago), she sooooo sweet. I got lucky cuz she's real submissive thank god. I did get Zango a trainer who i'm very happy with.


I'm not going to tell you she'll never bite some one but as an owner I think I have done a good job with her. She's good with everyone who comes over and great with the kids.

Personally I am against pitbulls, but not as much because of the dogs themselves, but because of the way their owners train them. I 100% support the Miami-Dade County law that forbids people from having them. Too many children have died because of Pitbulls.

If it were a medication, they would've outlawed it; so it's fair that they do the same with the dogs.

i have a pomeranian (small girl dog. fits in a large purse. looks cute in prissy clothes) that was abused before i adopted him and that little fucker will bite any stranger who comes near him. i think that animal aggression has less to do with the breed and a lot to do with the dogs upbringing/history-- much like people.

the difference between my dog and a pitbull is the obvious: power, but additionally the fact that the media looooves to sensationalize incidents of pitbulls biting people. those stories sell. additionally (no offense to any pitbull owners on this board) some douchebag human beings are attracted to that breed. douchebag owner = douchebag dog. the breed doesn't matter so much. i have met tons of very, very obedient pitbulls. they listen to their owners intently... the kind of dog that you tell to stay and it will sit there for hours until you tell it to move again. just imagine if the dog has a douchebag owner who is teaching it things other than 'stay'. they are very eager to please, in my experience.

All I have to say is that my 2 Malteses (girl 4lbs, boy 5lbs) will hack a pitbull anyday.
