Now... if they could just incorporate tripods, flashes, white balance, sync speeds, flash duration, light fall-off, grids, snoots, softboxes and reflectors into that demo... it would be quite useful!

I will show it to my mom though... might help her figure a few of the basics out. Thanks!

Actually a very cool post BMB. For some reason people have a tough time understanding that a picture is just a "proper exposure" and there are a small number of ways you can adjust that, yet still get a "proper exposure" using different settings.

either get a small meter of just look around the 'scene' with the meter in the camera... that's what I do if I'm not using strobes. set the camera to 's' at about 125th-160th then look all over th place with the camera meter.

if you're not getting the f stop you want go to the iso and fuck around with that until you're getting what you want to read. then to 'm' and set the cam. then start shooting.

I don't use auto anything except for bts

You can actually make a simple pinhole lens by poking a small hole in a body cap. I tried this a couple of years ago, works roolly good on a 1Ds...!!!

The day I upgraded my D50 to a d300 was the best day ever - the D300 doesn't have any real 'auto' setting though it does have a P setting, that isn't far off. Still, it made me sit up, listen, take in and understand what it meant to be "in control" of a camera.

Love the white balance meter it has - crisp.

I've been bitten by the photography bullet since age 11 when I bought my first Pentax reflex. Now I'm really taking it seriously and love it every minute
