SEO Mystery

With all the hosted galleries out there my own and other sites and so many links to them why is it that RARELY do any hosted galleries show up in top 5 for search results for common terms?

The anchor text to the hosted galleries doesn't really match the keyword of the gallery if there is one.

the extensions of the url's are different. the goog doesn't seem to appreciate them as all inbounds to the same page. yahoo appears to have a slightly different treatment.

Think about the network flow of a link from a webmaster to your hosted galleries.

A webmaster owns a tgp/mgp. Almost 99% of the time, the link is done via a script, not a hard link. That right there is a big problem for SE's. Then, add to the mix that's the only time that link is probably ever seen. Other webmasters have different webmaster ids so the most times you really have a link to your galleries is via 1 webmaster linking a to a gallery with 1 unique code via a script redirect.

The flow of backlinks is really badly made that it won't pull in top rankings unless the same webmaster is linking to those galleries via hundreds of different sites.

It isn't really much of a mystery... it follows basic principles.

not really, it's close to common sense to someone who has a clue about seo, the answer is pretty obvious....

like everyone else basically said, it has a lot to do with links, anchor text, etc. As well, if you have 100 affiliates all pointing to the same hosted gallery, that starts to run into dupe content. That is why i try and make as many galleries as I can and I have some decent rankings for those.

As well remember how the big G works. they are looking for your page, site, etc to be relevant to the those terms.

here is another question for ya

if I link to abc.com and that auto redirects to aaa.com does google see the aaa.com or no?

My point is all those people that send traffic thru a ccbill aff link etc does it do nothing for the site the traffic is going to?

It used to be very easy to rank hosted galleries for bigger terms, basically all you are doing is utilizing the link power the hosted gallery domain has and creating authority on YOUR page, or ref code.

Back a few years ago I had quite the run with tcg hosted galleries (over 2500 sales from tcg hosted galleries direct from google), there is actually a post here from 04 or 05 with someone asking if there was a "trick" to rank tcg galleries with blogspot. (I was the first guy to realize I could register deleted blogs from most of the "trusted" establishments, and aquired thousands of PageRank)

Sure there was a trick, 1500 pr worth of link juice was a great place to begin searching for the "trick".

For the course of about 2 years I had tcg and nasty dollars hosted galleries ranked in the top 3 for terms like blowjobs, big tits, xxx, squirting, milf (amongst others) everyone of the sitenames, and most the stars names.

I had ALOT of link power, alot of unique backlinks into my feeder pages, and solidifying AUTHORITY was easy as pie. Google had no choice but to rank these super domains (thousands of links) and further had no choice but to list the most authoritive page for that search term. Knowing what they HAD to do, made it easy to work with.

The same applies for referal codes. You see some people say its cheesy for me to rank my referal code for "Paysite Classics", because that serp should belong only to the paysite paysiteclassics.com (spoof). What they may not realize is its in the process of being bumped for "classic porn" and just from sheer authority, it picks up all the other serps that the domain may show in. And the traffic from the generic, yet highly targeted serp should trump the others in value.

Edit** Alot of whats mentioned above is common knowledge now, almost everything still applies, its just not as easy to aquire the quality link power was it was then

After enough links (what constitutes enough, i don't know), Google will see it. What google wants to avoid is infinite link possibilities. So if you get a link from a really high authority site (ie: cnn.com) Google will finally follow the link or spider the affiliate link. Alternatively, tons of links to the same affiliate link from different sources.

A hard link can be as little as a pr0 link to get Google's attention. An affiliate link which is duplicate content and an ugly form (ie: domain.com/?wmlogin=XXX) will take a lot of attention before Google finally indexes them. Google will probably follow it but disregard the hundreds of affiliate backlinks as seperate links due to duplicate content.

In short, don't count on your affiliate network to build your backlinks ;)

There is one big reason, and that is Duplicat content.

That is the reason I always advice the programs to use "no index" and "no follow" on the FHG's

You have 2000+ pages of:
domain.com\fhgdir\girlXXXX\affID1111\index.php
domain.com\fhgdir\girlXXXX\affID2222\index.php
domain.com\fhgdir\girlXXXX\affID3333\index.php
domain.com\fhgdir\girlXXXX\affID4444\index.php
domain.com\fhgdir\girlXXXX\affID5555\index.php
domain.com\fhgdir\girlXXXX\affID6666\index.php
or
domain.com\fhgdir\girlXXXX\index.php?refid=1111
domain.com\fhgdir\girlXXXX\index.php?refid=2222
domain.com\fhgdir\girlXXXX\index.php?refid=3333
domain.com\fhgdir\girlXXXX\index.php?refid=4444
domain.com\fhgdir\girlXXXX\index.php?refid=5555

The same content and the same names, and it hurts both your paysite and affiliate site SERP

There are ways around this so the Affiliate programs root gallery always will show up in the SE and not harm the SERP of the program or paysite.

It would look pretty stupid to hand that info over for free, when I have charged customers $$$ for the same info

LIVE.com will pick up redirects like this, but I've found in doing so, for some stupid reason... they drop the main site it's redirecting to. LOL I have 3 redirects listed on page 1 on Live.com for the same keyword, same page etc... but the main site they redirect to is nowhere to be found.

From what I recall, Google ignores redirects. I could be mistaken though.
