Is it your end capturing the video from camcorder to PC or did he provide it as a rendered digital file? If you're the one doing the capturing, try cleaning your heads. If he's the one that provided it then you're probably out of luck, unless he was using a separate deck to capture... otherwise, he'll have to redo it from scratch.Comment

in the past and am surprised at the events that have led up to this email.

I recognised the momentary flashes of coloured squares which I believe are dropouts, and when there's motion there's a strange striped effect.
Obviously there are other issues such as the lighting but that was the obvious technical flaw I could see. Low light may be somewhat fixable, but if it was recorded with dirty heads or some other type of camera fault then it's a dead loss.

First thing i see is that there is no lighting , it looks like available light to me, second thing is the light level is so low that the camera is hunting to find focus, thirdly it looks very much like this was shot at 15 FPS or maybe 20 FPS and then when its played back at 25 FPS it looks jumpy.

He's got a HD camcorder... that's what he is using to redo. I haven't the foggiest idea why he chose his older camera... The material is suppose to be "amateur style" (I Shot This Video) but def. not shitty quality due to bad camera.
I have 2 hours of content in different rooms and viewed various parts throughout on the lens of a couple cameras... every shot was jumpy, squares, lines, etc.
These digital camcorders with 8mm can film at different FPS?? I was looking at all the cameras to see if possibly there was a setting that would auto correct but couldn't find one.Comment

Dude... stop. There are no 8mm High Definition (HD) camcorders. Wake up and smell the 1440X1080i resolution of a $7,000 High Definition Camera - it did not mate and make babies with a beaten-up and dropped 8mm consumer quality camera from the 80's.
