Take the time to remember....

On November 11 Canadians will wear poppies and gather at war
memorials across Canada to pay tribute to those who died in war. At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11 month, the time the Armistice of the First World War was signed in 1918, we will observe two minutes of silence to remember.

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

that's one of the few poems I've always been able to recite from memory.

lest we forget

Nov 11 is the one holiday that I believe is the MOST important in the entire year and deserving of ENORMOUS respect.

WW1 was the most hideous loss of life in history at the point it occurred. It was the war to end all wars, but the devastation at battles like the Bulge, Argonne, were unbelievable and unimaginable to the participants.

The first use chemical warfare that I know of as well. My great grandfather fought in the trenches in France and came home a sick and broken man.

I know you do easton
When I was reading the poem I got goose bumps all over and was teary eyed

My grandpa fought in the war and my nanny was a nurse...They both made it through....their both gone now for other reasons
I can only imagine what they had to endure,
Both during and after the war.
