ATI TV Wonder

I am trying to install one on my friend's PC. His PC is top-of-the-line, P4 2.4Ghz, Geforce 4, etc on Windows XP Home.

I follow the installation instructions exactly from http://mirror2.ati.com/drivers/tvw-p...-7-6-0-1b.html (you need to install special drivers for Windows XP due to compatability issues).

The problem is I CAN get all the drivers installed (audio capture, video capture, audio crossbar, video crossbar) EXCEPT the TV Tuner.

My question: Do you have to have the cable cord actually connected to the card for you to be able to install the TV Tuner drivers?

When I installed the TV Wonder on my PC back in July, I don't remember whether or not I had the cable wire connected but the card does function correctly now and both our computers are similar.

I have had reinstall mine a few times on XP.

I found that you have to install, delete, install a few times.

Eventually it works.......

Do you have to have the cable wire connected in the back?

I re-installed twice on his PC with the "unsupported" XP drivers. All the other programs in the media center work (video player, file player, etc.) except the most important one: the TV Tuner.

the cord will have nothing to do with wether or not the TV Tuner works or not.

What program is packaged with the card that run the TV portion? I know my winTV card came with the winTV program to run that feature.

Don't know which ATI uses but look around on the install disk for it. You said you got the capture working? I would be surprised if the capture program and the TV program wern't one and the same.

Also the driver may work for winXp issues while the software to run the TV might still be incompatible.

Suggestions:
Look for an updated version of the TV software
Check and see if the bios on the ATI board can be updated.
Make sure there is no applicable bios updates for your mainboard
when installing new drivers completely delete the old one by installing standard pci adapter then reloading the driver after a reboot, sometimes this helps

Before I re-installed, I removed the Media Center and manually removed all the drivers from the Device Manager.

After rebooting, and manually adding the drivers in the Device Manager, the TV Tuner does not show up. All the other ones do though.

The sad thing is, ATI does not officially support Windows XP for this card because they are dirty, rotten Canadians so even if my friend calls, they will probably shaft him.

Thanks. I'm on XP and the TV Tuner works. Hell -- I'm watching Saving Private Ryan on ABC as I type.

i have a radeon all in wonder on a win98 and the packaged tv tuner software would not work for me, so i reformatted my comp and installed everything on a clean system and it worked. then i installed the drivers for my camera and everything was fucked up again, and even when the tv tuner did work it would randomly crash my computer.

i searched the net for tv viewers and this is the only one that'd work with my camera drivers installed and didn't crash my system. after 30 days the vcr functions won't work but u can still view the tv.

The problem is the DRIVERS for the TV Tuner portion of the TV Wonder are not showing up. I have a feeling that even if he downloads that program you mentioned at the end of your post, he'll get no TV picture.
