Have you ever had to call 911 & if so, why?

Have you ever had to call 911 for help? Any crazy stories?

When I worked for a bank in a not so nice part of town, I had to call 911 a couple of times. Once because a homeless couple were having a physical altercation outside. The woman chased the man swinging a crow bar at him at one point.
The cops came & they ended up kissing & making up. It was romantic.
Another time there was a man wearing only sandals running through traffic outside of our offices. He was a large Native American fellow with a pony tail. Apparently he had been waiting for the bus when he decided to strip and go for a jog.
They arrested him.

I had the big window with a view... not that you would want it in the area I worked in.

Any real emergency situations where you have had to call 911?

That wasn't 911, that was Craigslist... and it wasn't an ambulance, it was a Yellowcab with a tranny inside.

When I was a telemarketer I had to call 911 as I was selling the Boston Globe news paper in the New England area and while talking to a very sweet old lady had a heart attack. Had to get on our office phone and call 911 and had them dispatch us to 911 in Penn where she is at, and they sent an ambulance and got on her phone to let me know they were there and that we can continue with our job.

Moral of story, not all telemarketers are bad, some can help save your life ;)

I've called the Australian equivalent a few times...

- found a guy passed out cold on the tram tracks, called an ambulance

- neighbour across the street was attacked, called police

- saw a fire on vacant land, called the fire brigade

- guy forced my front door when I was right behind it (not sure who was more surprised), called the police

- called an ambulance when I was having heart palpitations and wasn't sure if it was a heart attack

Several years ago I accidentally called 911 instead of 411. I realized my mistake as soon as they answered and apologized profusely That's the only time.

My alarm has called 911 a couple of times, but it was due to my power being out, not a break in or fire. And the generator has solved that.

I did call local cops once about a vagrant dude. Woulda dialed 911 if I didnt have the police number taped to the old phone at old work.

Guy was dirty, smelly, carrying around and drinking water from an old plastic gallon milk container. He'd been sitting in front of my store and scaring customers and when I went to shoo him away, he was very weird so I called the cops.

Gave them a description and a few minutes after I'd hung up the phone, 2 cars came flying in with lights and sirens, and while they were cuffing him, a county sheriff pulled up too.. Evidently I had "found" some dangerous wanted fugitive or whatever. Pretty scary after the fact, but during it I was just calling the cops on some smelly scary homeless looking weirdo.. expecting the cops to quietly come and chat with him and remove him.
Never know I guess. Never heard a thing about it afterwards.

Oh duh, I've called 911 from the car many times if I've come upon an accident and there's no police/ambulance/etc. And when someone stole my car 18+ years ago, I had the gas station call 911.

I can't believe I didn't remember those. The mind is 2nd thing to go (after the boobs).

turned out the snake wasnt as big as i thought, and it wasnt poisonous either like i thought.. either way, if it were a garter snake i'd have called lol

ok this is a fucked up story. My friends 18'th bday.... 20 years ago. We're having a surprise party for him when all of a sudden his psycho brother stabs his mom in the back right at the heart area... We where all downstairs and she opened the door to cry for help and when we went up she was already turning a greyish green and bleeding a lot.

First instinct and I pike up the phone and dial 911, i get a recording that 911 is not set up in our area... so I had to call local police station so they could dispatch an emergency rescue.

His mom died in front of us, nothing we could of done to save her unfortunately :-(

December 28th hasn't been the same for me since then...

Funniest time I have ever called 911. I woke up Saturday morning and like every morning I go and open up the shades to my 6x6ft front window. To my surprise there is a dude outside face down on the sidewalk. I called 911. They asked if he was breathing so I had to get close enough to see, he was and as I was checking to see if he was breathing he pissed his pants.

A few mins later the ambulance shows up. They honk their horns really loud while they are pulling up to see if they can wake up the guy. The guy wakes up as they are getting out of the truck then proceeds to trip and fall flat on his face again.

Paramedics told me they think he was just drunk and should be alright.

This was a rat snake that came and visited 2 years in a row - you probably would have had a coronary (or blown a hole in my door )

I called the Norwegian equivalent this summer when my drunk friend fell of my porch and rolled off a cliff.. It was only 2-3 meters down and missed the big rock so he was fine. Didnt even have time to get an ambulance there before he was back in my house drinking, he even came out to the pub with us :P

Oh! Anyone ever get a reverse 911 call? They did one in my area only a few months or so ago. Some guy had escaped police custody so they robo-call every home in the area to warn them to lock up (which I did). Then a couple of hours later it called again to say the emergency situation was over. Really neat, but kinda creepy too.

I called once when I saw an accident happen right in front of me and this car flipped 2-3 times. I had no idea where I was so it was rather difficult to figure out where I was calling from, but eventually they sent paramedics.

I had to call once when my friends old school VW Van caught on fire in my front yard.

Learned a valuable lesson about car fires that day. If there's an electrical fire and its possible disconnect the battery.

When I lived in Phoenix I was outside talking to the neighbor when this truck comes screeching around the corner, parks in front of us, guy gets out and looks at his fender which is jacked up from his hitting something, gets back in the truck and drives off. He didn't make the turn at the end of the street and almost ran into a neighbors house. He and his buddy bailed. While my husband and neighbor ran down the street to see what was up, I called 911. Turns out it was a stolen truck. We had the police chopper flying over the neighborhood for quite awhile. They found some guy in a backyard and had my husband ID him. It wasn't one of the guys in the truck though.

I called another time when I was driving down the 101 in Phoenix and a truck had dumped about 2 dozen of those orange cones in the middle of the road. You couldn't see them until you were right up on them and I just knew there was going to be a nasty accident.

I think once when my mom locked herself in a room and was going nuts.. :P Kids... lolz

Unrelated but cool story, I was stopped at some traffic lights maybe 3am one day, and there's a cop car right beside me to my left.. We're both sitting at a red light. There are lights at that junction because there's an offramp from the highway..

So this guy comes blazing up the offramp, hits the turn insanely hard, and PULLS HIS EMERGENCY BREAK..... Fishtailing around the corner, and speeds away.. I'm laughing my ass off, I look over at the cop, he looks at me, smiles, turns on his lights and goes to pull him over... lol.. There's like nobody around but me and the cop, and he pulls that shit off RIGHT in front of the cop.. It was like a drive in movie

My phone was dialed 911 automatically 'cause the phone was in my pocket. And I did not know it was dialed. After 1 min, 911 called me back and asked if something was happened.

Only once. When i was younger my dad was complaining of not feeling right and then collapsed. Right away, I called 911 because I had no idea what was wrong and was worried it could be something serious. Turned out he had kidney stones and was passing out due to the pain.

Another time my girlfriend accidentily called 911. Her brothers number has 911 in it and somehow she ended up getting 911 instead of her brother.

I had to call 911 once because one of my friends got high and started to panic. They took him to the hospital and gave him a sedative, then he fell sleep and when my friend woke up, he was good as new.

Damn where do I start:

- When my son at 2 years old decided to climb out his window and take a walk during nap time
- When my crazy (and I mean that literally) ex neighbor got in a fist fight on my front porch. She also trashed the cop car and tried to call me collect from the jail 15 times before I had the number blocked
- 10 years ago when I got home at 5am from work and noticed my downstairs sliding glass door open
- 10 years ago at the same apartment when my then boyfriends ex game to his house and smashed out his house windows and truck windows while their son was in the house. He was afraid that they were heading to my place next. I called the cops and went and got my sons little league bat.
- 6 months ago when I pulled up in my driveway and saw 2 people running through my backyard
- Saturday night to help a kid broken down on the side of the road
- About 30 times over the 10 years I bartended when we had idiots fighting in the bar.
- Another time driving home from work at 430 am and saw a drunk guy walking down the center yellow line so he wouldnt get hit by a car.

There are more but I dont want to bore anyone

Always learn your local police departments phone number, and program it into your phone(s).

So many of the things people call 911 for are so beneath the minimum standard of "emergency"... 911 is NOT "the same as" calling the police.

Who's got the link to the idiot calling 911 to complain about his Burger King sandwich? Or the one of John McCains brother Joe callin 911 to ask about traffic?

Just remember: someone is DYING while you call 911, so make sure you are too (hmm that didnt come out right did it? lmfao!)

I've got the winner:

I was dating a cop from my area, and he was on duty one night. I really wanted to get laid, so I called 911 and hung up. By law they have to send an officer to investigate. Guess who came! and guess how long it took him to "investigate" haha!

First time:
Was 8 years old, threw a dart and hit my cousin in the forehead. Called 911 and hung up cus he was okay. Almost got in trouble for it.

Second time:
Saw about 3 or 4 people around something that looked like a little girl in the street and a car on the side of the road. Called 911... turned out that someone hit a dog. (seriously)

Third time:
Had a massive neurological attack due to a health problem, got to take a ride in the ambulance.

Fourth time:
Repeat of third time.

Oddly enough I called 911 last night at 2am when there was some kind of a fight at my neighbor's house. They seem to have a lot of people who live in the house, including a 18 year old and his girlfriend, a 15 year old, a nine year old, and the parents. I woke up at 2am to them screaming at each other outside on their doorstep; One person went out and smacked one of the cars setting off the car alarm.

The eighteen year old is a piece of work. He was hurt when he was a kid, broke his jaw, and recently came into a lot of money from a lawsuit - lots of money. Just bought him a shiny BMW. He was involved with some kind of drama a few months ago where he was kidnapped at gun point, put into a car, and he bailed out on the freeway. ( I swear I live in a nice area.)

So last night the cops show up, and it turns out they were looking for this kid anyhow so they took him away in handcuffs.

As I recall, Zolt said later at the cops station he saw a big dragon and at some other point he wanted to free his mom from his dad.

What's fucked up is he got 5 years in mental institute and was reinstated in society on a close watch after.

Always wondered if the dad didn't have anything to do with it as I'm not sure all her personal insurance was transfered from him.

Seeing a knife in a puddle of blood and a women dying in front of her own children is something I do not wish to see ever again.
