It's hit or miss. Do the best you can to qualify them on the front end knowing that they'll probsably let you down shortly thereafter. When you find a good one who does what he says he can do in the timeframe he says he can do it, NEVER EVER LET HIM GO.
I work with one, who in turn manages a group. So long as I am very specific and literal with my communication with them, they do the job and do it well. The minute there's even the slightest hiccup in communication, even the most simple thing can go haywire.
I think you can expect the same as if you hired someone from somewhere else, except maybe less expensive? And as with everything else, you get what you pay for. If he/she is really cheap, he/she is probably billing the same 40/hr week to multiple companies, just to survive.
before i started in adult i did web design work all through outsourced people from all over the world
some very important tips are:
if they let you down one time, drop them. these guys will take on 5 jobs when they have time for just 1 and all their jobs will suffer. theyll try guilt trips and stuff out on you but ignore it and find someone who doesnt miss a deadline.
get them to repeat what you say to them in their own words, because thats the only way you're going to know if they actually understood you (not in their own language, in their own english words ;) )
these guys are used to bartering so dont be afraid to ask for something simple and pay little for it - but be prepared if you want to add anything on or anything like that to pay extra for it, even if someone else might have included it in the price
if you can observe them through like a remote desktop thing thats your best bet to make sure they're working. indians in particular are extremely hard workers - when they're being watched. when they aren't, they can be some of the dumbest and laziest fucks around.
I have an Indian guy who does some work for me. Best thing I can suggest is to make it clear if the work is not done then you won't be sending the money.
Most of the good ones are already taken, it's still possible to find one, but it's probably 1 in a 100 shot..
This is especially true now with companies like Microsoft, Sun, Oracle and others setting up engineering outposts in India.
4 years ago you could get a PHD to work for you as an outsourced programmer... now those guys are working for one of the bigger companies with the salary and prestige that comes with having a position at one of them instead of slaving away at an outsourcing company.
I mean, think about it, wouldn't you?
That is also driving prices up.
So, don't expect the Top Gun quality guys for cheap if at all. Expect to pay about 60% of US prices. Once upon a time it was 25%. Those were the days.
I've trusted my sites to them for over a decade...
