Why are there so many goddamn CRAZIES in San Francisco?

Seriously...I can barely walk home without someone begging for change or saying some crazily random and incoherent shit to me.

And I'm constantly having to check over my shoulder for crazies walking up on me. Even the initially normal-seeming people trick you and turn out to be completely bat-shit nuts.

I've visited a handful of big cities, but SF has the highest ratio of crazies to normal people that I've ever seen.

San Francisco population is very liberal and more tolerant of different people, such as the homeless, than most other places.

And geography makes it worse - it's well popularized in movies, that to get a fresh start, go out west ... well, many do just that, but eventually they hit the Pacific ocean and thus they tend to bunch up in the cities along there.

And then to add insult to injury, many social agencies across the country do "Greyhound treatment" ... that is to say, they give homeless people with mental / physical problems, who can't be easily helped, a one-way ticket to cities like San Francisco - out of sight is out of mind.

And lastly, homeless people are like Pigeons - feed them, and they not only stay, but tend to attract more... people / government who give money to beggers without verification / restrictions makes the problem even worse.

Was sitting in the car at a stop light in SF once, when this homeless/crazy looking fucker comes stumbling across eating some yogurt or some shit outta a little cup with this fingers. I went into San Fran a few weeks ago. I was there for a about three hours, took BART in. I didn't a single person begging me for money. I saw a number of homeless people eating in Burger King, but that was it.
