i have a feeling 'rethinking your licenses' means giving it away for free to some multi billion Euro telco who will come up with some
bogus deal where they promise the moon and in the end content providers will get dick.

I've been contacted by some guys from one Euro telecom comp. about this.I don't think it's a good idea.He is interested in some "sport illustrated" style of content - for the begining so I will make some deal with him and see.I think that will be hard to watch some porno pics on small display but how knows...

Sorry, not very accurate from my part. It would be a revenue sharing deal, with content producer getting up to 20% of what the Telcos pay for the content.

So if end user pays $1, telco might pay $0.2 and you would get $0.04. Doesn't sound like much, but if you start multiplying that by millions, it get's interesting... These figures are just estimates.

I wonder if you can get turned on py pics on the mobile screen. Usualy they are very low quality... but that's going to change soon

New Nokia phones come with high resolution color displays, and pictures look quite ok on those. On estimating how big the market is going to be, your guess is as good as mine. BUT, at the moment revenue for selling logos, ring tones, sms services and pictures is actually bigger than whole web eCommerce done in Europe (yes, including adult).

This is true. I don't think americans realize what an ENORMOUS market this is. In Norway, with only 4 million citizens, 100's of millions have been made with SMS logos, ringtones etc.

That's actually been part of the reason why Nokia is such a big hit in Europe, that you are able to get the custom logos and ringtones through SMS to it.

I am not sure how well MMS will do though. As it is now, it is WAY too complicated to hook up to it, but I assume they will be selling phones with this already set up soon.
MMS is only a temporary thing also, UMTS will eventually be bigger.
Meaning you can stream live video feeds to cell phones.

But who knows...

the royal dutch telecom has a simular prg, looked at it, looked at imode mobile phones (255 color gif less then 10kb...) and decided its a def no no, MMS is supported by just 2 providers here in holland and phones are $500 up. We will move to mobile when they have streaming tft, cost $100 and all

And what exactly does the 'surfer' pay 1$ for? a single pic?

I see a few slight flaws with this idea, i dont know if you have considered them already .. but..

a) 'E-Porn' is dominant because of it's anonimity crossed with the state of mind of the surfer coupled with his environment. How many people are gonna be downloading porn while they wait in line at the bank, or eat at McD's. I dont see to many people sitting at home and surfinglarge quantities of porn pic by pic on their slow ass cell phone.

b) You also use the current size of the sms,logo,ring tone market as a reference point for pornography. Thats like saying because Sears makes so much money selling lawnmowers, that hookers should try pulling tricks in the Sears Home and garden center, the markets are unrelated.

c) We have already watched a hyped up 'mobile' market crash and burn over here, why, because it just wasnt practicle.. ever tried surfing the net on phone. The experience is less than fufilling, and even with the improvements it would be a painstaking time to select pics.. do they get to see thumbnails btw? or do they have to blindly guess if the pic is good before they by. So I have a feeling your faith in these 'millions' of sales is misplaced.

Don't get me wrong, the MMS market is probably gonna boom out there. But I just dont see it lauching an era of mobile porn. Mainly because of one simple problem, whos gonna jerk off anywhere where their cell phone is the easiest way to aquire porn. They gonna jerk off on the bus??? or will it be someone sittin there at home, holding his cell phone in one hand, waiting several seconds and paying a buck for a singular pic, and then attempting to jerk off WHILE holding his cell phone up, and squinting just so he can make out the the girls nipples. And then repeating for the next pic, christ, how would he ever manage to get off?? I dunno.....

You could definatly make a few bucks at it.. but i doubt its gonna go anywhere serious.

Just my opinion.. if you dont like it.. mabye ill mms you a a pic of my ass to kiss. LOL j/k

You might have some points but just because mobile market in the US burnt doesn´t mean that it will burn somewhere else....as
you said before......different markets....not possible to compare.

As you probably don´t know in Europe they have GPRS and UTMS
The last one is capable of speeds up to 2Mbit/sec.....I think that´s
quite enough to watch some porn....and see some vids....

Same goes for phones, palm, laptops which will also use this
technology.....UTMS is even like a fixed line....it´s not a dialup.

WTF does that have to do with rethinking a license agreement? If I strike a deal for a different payent arrangement with a client that does not change my license. In this case, If I were to considering such a thing, I would most likely change the license to make it more strict. Telco companies are not exactly known for their honesty.

True, the markets are very different, and I am aware that wireless is much bigger out there because they have a very old infrestructure and it would take insane ammount of money to lay enuf lines for everyone.

Yes it would definatly be more profitable ot in europe than it would be here. But the main problems are pretty much inherent to the mobile industry no matter where it is.

The fact of the matter is that to have net access portable really isnt too much of an extra convience, not for the hassle it creates/investment required. And I have looked into the mms technology and it doesnt look like video will be a very widly supported concept yet, so you are still stuck ith stills.

Also, the main pushing feature for mms is not or surfing or entertainment per say, they market these little cameras that go with the phones so you can send someone a still of yourself, or whatever you want for that matter. Its designed for inter-personal communication, not media service delivery.

But I'm not necesarily bashing it, I just see some major issues that have yet to be resolved. It has DEFINATE potential, but it also has a long way to go.

I agree like internet wireless media is still at the very early stages. MMS is probably not going to be too much of a big thing
but I see it as a logical step forward in mobile communication.

Internet is and should not be restricted for use with a computer
the way we know computers now.....(screen, keyboard) phones
or wireless computers or variants are the first to connect....other
apliances as TV, household appliances and regular phone, cars
will follow.

Anyway the moral of all this is even when it´s not perfect for use
at this time....it´s sure advisable to keep up with new stuff....
limiting yourself to 1 market/technology is a risky thing to do

Sharing information, exploring new technology wether it succeeds
or fails is valuable information....imho to all of us...
