Sort of kicking myself now.. I went in after the first pic because it was gale conditions.. but I should have stayed out, the lightning was still intense later.. Very annoyed because this is the end drab bits, missed a LOT of really good sheet lightning. You can see it pass overhead after the rain stopped:
this thread is worthless without mentioning the city...

Just rain or also hail? Looks like a harsh one. Stay safe.
Hail too, not a lot though, at least not compared to there last couple of storms where it was white on the ground. It's ok now, it's passed over. Apparently there are a lot of upturned trees etc around town. I haven't left the office yet.
We were expecting it too hit us in Sydney but we were spared this one. I hope South East Qld gets a break ... I know the emergency services were stretched before the balcony holding 80 people collapsed!
the storm is spectacular but the loss of life that has accompanied is tragic, and according to the news South East Qld is in for another night of floods and strom devastation with rescue services stretched to the limit!
winds were up to 180 km/h and they are about to be hot for the 3rd time this week with the 3rd storm cell ....
Been some amazing rain here in Brisbane. Combined dam capacity is up to over 43 percent. And is expected to reach 46 percent by next weekend. Couldn't have come at a better time. But it's 'caused a heap of damage around the place. I was actually out with my brother when it first hit and there were points where you couldn't see the front of your own car.
Cheers for appreciating the pics. And to the aussies, yeah, I'm hearing dribs and drabs about the tragedies, I haven't had time to look at the news all week, it's pretty shocking and it's probably not over yet..
cool pics but looking at those pics the storm seems freaky.

45,000 houses and business have lost power, and streets have debris and lots of flood damage. Hail and lightning intensified last night and the water levels subsided by this morning.

Shit, that does look severe! I saw on the news the other day the battering the Gold Coast copped a few days ago. We've had storms here this week (south of Sydney) but nothing that ferocious.
