What do I with stuff I designed by didnt get paid for?

I have two clients whom I mistakenly trusted and who stiffed me. One was for just 3 galleries, but the second one was for 2 single-girl sites.

The galleries is not a big deal, I'll change them and use them for promoting my own sites, but the sites... what do I do: remove the girl from the design and replace her with my own girl? Sell the design to another person looking for a cheap non-exclusive design?

What are your thoughts on this?

Me, I would sell the sites and try and recover some of the lost money..

Sell it and move on. Be sure that the original "buyers" are not using the files... if they are, "out" them.

Out them on GFY. Try to revamp the designs to work for something else and put them up in the buy and sell forum. I don't always ask for half up front, but I've been scammed a few times here on GFY for being trustworthy.

one of them is using the gallery designs, but the other one is still working on populating the site consoles, so the design is not live. I dont like starting drama so I wont mention names. But for other designers that may read this thread: dont let well-known-industry-names fool you... both these guys are VERY well known, and they were both recommended by a colleague, that's what made me believe I could trust them.

the sad thing is that I ALWAYS ask for 50% up front... shame on me for not doing it this time :P

You did not start the drama . . . they did by ordering and not paying.

Sell it to whomever wants it. You may as well get some return for your time and effort.
