$9.99 the future of adult site memberships?!
A few years back the argument against $9.99 memberships was that if it would work internet would be full of these types of sites, now the largest adult sites in the world like porntube.com and megarotic.com are offering $9.99 memberships.
I know there have been plenty of sky-is-falling threads, but this time, the $9.99 memberships are here! And the tube sites DO have an impact, and have already changed the adult game in many ways - huge decline for porn DVD industry this year! Will they change the price norm for adult sites also? Surfers who get used to seeing $9.99 on the world's largest sites will feel $29.95 or $39.95 on just an average site is a rip-off! Looking at Alexa/Quantcast graphs, major adult sites have also lost significant amounts of traffic in the past 6 months... so some kind of change is happening. |

Good question. But I wouldn't compare a tube site to a paysite.

Ive always found that raising membership price led to increase in sales not other way around.

I've argued this point for 10 years on the boards. High price points are the only way to go.
In 99' my sites did amazing sales 24.99 a month. If I still had those sites now, they would be at $34.99. Internet porn is an impulse buy. lowering prices is idiotic. ![]() |

I think its too dependant on the traffic source and type of site to make broad statements about "the best price point".
It depends on what price is best for YOUR site and YOUR traffic. But hey, what do I know?

if you offer unique exclusive stuff $29.95 is not a rip off. If someone sees something that catches their eye. They are price shopping at that point.

I believe we will witness a shift away from the $29.90 business model to more of a "pay-as-you-go" one.

With the collective thinking in this thread.. let's go for the $99.99 a month membership, sales should be off the hook! Fuck PPS, do revshare!! WOOOOOOOO!

I have done the same thing over the years. Offering promo, starting with lower when a site opens. Lower price points do not mean more sales. Only people with shit content believe this farse. |

9.99 was the future 3 years ago.. Seems $10 porn did go over well with most.

If this is true, then tubes wouldn't have much of a long term impact on sales. Agree?

From my impression, there are either people willing to pay or people who want it free. Trying to get the ones who want it free with a cheap $10 maybe a smart move, but offering those willing to pay $30 this price is pretty dumb.
I doubt porntube or megarotic see better conversion rates than the average paysite, they just compensate it with insane traffic. So, each his own, there are $50 whores and there are $3000 whores and they'll both have happy customers. Quality is never cheap. |

I think StarkReality nailed it best "there are $50 whores and there are $3000 whores and they'll both have happy customers." From mainstream, Skype has a pay-per-go and an unlimited-usage monthly membership. I will do some testing on adding a pay-per-go option as addition to monthly membership, while making the monthly membership look more attractive to see if it increases or decreases revenue. |
