best country for webmasters??

since we work online and can basically work from anywhere, what do u think the best country is?

Im in panama and so far its a nice place.. cheap.. but i need to learn spanish.. im probably gonna setup base here then travel around other countries.. so i want to get ideas from you guys..

where is a nice country to live in?

Somewhere you can just chill out next to the beach, relax & enjoy life...

BTW this is assuming you make 6fig/yr

I would love to get a year's worth of content shot, then live in both Costa Rica and Panama for a few months out of the year. The other months I'd cruise around Europe (or wherever for that matter), then come back to the USA and shoot another year of content. Repeat.

Cons about Panama from a business perspective.

Small labor pool - 1.5 million in the greater Panama City metro area. 3 million in the whole country.

Increasing demand for fluent english speakers in all areas. Very few English speakers here.

Increasing demand for techie labor, eg, webmasters, admins, etc.. Especially english speakers.

Small techie labor pool to begin with.

Socialist labor system heavily slanted towards the employee. Too many laws and regs that stifle growth; both for the business and the employee.

Costs for qualified, english speaking employees is skyrocketing as demand increases and supply drops off.

The competition for qualified employees is horrendous right now. When I first started over a year ago, I'd get 30 - 50 resumes within two weeks of posting a help wanted ad online. This last two weeks, I've posted ads for writers and html guys - 3 writer resumes and 5 html resumes. Terrible.

Bureacratic nightmare. Everything you do regarding establishing and operating a business requires a lawyer. Immigration is completely hosed up. The Ministry of Labor has pre-judicial power; the only way to reverse their decision is to take them to court. The various goverment departments don't communicate with other. Example: The Director of Immigration makes a change that requires a change at the Ministry of Labor. The Ministry of Labor never heard about the change. Labor says "No - you need the Immigration stamp first". Immigration says "No - you need the labor document first". Catch 22's are everywhere.

Corrupt, underpaid, understaffed police forces.

"Manana" attitude is prevalent. Getting things done takes 4 - 5 times as long as it should.

"Me First" attitude. Most Panamanians don't look towards the future - they want their dollar now.

Pros about Panama

Decent cost of living.

Labor is still cheap compared to the US/UK/Canada, etc - probably 20%.

Friendly people

Great banking and business privacy laws.

Good infrastructure. Internet access is plentiful and not terribly expensive. Power is expensive, but so far, extremely reliable. Water system is excellent - you can drink tap water with no worries. Roads and traffic are pretty bad.. but they are "working on it".

No taxes on income derived from offshore sources (ie, outside Panama).

Lots of hot chicks from Colombia

I enjoy Panama. If I was working on my own, this would be an OK place to live. Running an office here is.. well.. it could be better.

The Philippines seems to be the place to be for production work. I still like the banking and privacy laws here in Panama, though..

Cancun, Mexico is very nice. Stay away from the rest of Mexico, mostly the northern portion, since crime is rampant, but in Cancun things are pretty laid back and it's very safe.
No need to speak spanish, since most people speak at least basic English, let alone being fluent.

I've lived in Panama and didn't like it... if fucking rains too much and its humid as hell (tropic...not much to expect) .... all the things fusionx said are true ... also, the police are out trying to make a living so if they catch you for anything whatsoever be ready to bribe them .... I had a friend over there who didn't and they stalked him until he did ...

I'm learning Spanish at the moment. Next year i'm going to visit a few Spanish speaking countries and maybe live in one for a while.

I love it here in England, the people are mostly friendly and fun, the girls are hot and crime is relatively low. But the cost of living is high, taxes are high and the weathers crap

This is a tough question. I've heard of Thailand and Costa Rica.

Here are my thoughts after leaving over a year ago. Living some where else for a short period is nice, but what about your stuff? I sold all of my stuff and I'm working from a laptop. It's a pain in the ass sometimes though, especially when dealing with banking or modifying an account or getting paid not through wire or epassporte. I think it would be nice to have a place in the US where you can store things you need or want to keep and be able to return to. Maybe a cheap apartment or rent a room at a friends house.

I think an adventurous thing to do would be hop from country to country. Stay one place 3 months, head to another place for 3 months, and so on. Then return to your home base when you need or want to.
