For a signup form, is Washington DC a city or a state?

I always considered it a city, but I've had 2 customers write to me about how theres no Washington DC in my states drop down form.

So should I be including it in the state list, or keep it city?

The way mailing addresses are printed for Washington, DC

it makes it look like the city field would be Washington and the state abbreviation would be DC for "District of Columbia"

Not sure if when an affiliate fills out a signup form they'd get it.. to do it that way..

Washinton DC (district of Columbia) isn't in a state. it is it's own district. a long time ago when the states were fighting over who would have the capitol they decided to make a seperate place for Washington so that no state could claim it. It is boardered by Maryland and Virginia.

It's a federal district, and therefor have its own POSTAL code.

I would add it to Statelist if I was you, Just to make it easier for the customers

Many folks in DC consider it to be like a state even though it's not.

Put it in the state dropdown, but make sure to differentiate it from Washington state ... use something like: District of Columbia (DC) ... and for the city, use the same thing.
