I think that day is coming soon.

Someone showed me some numbers the other day that made my eyes pop out of my head. Just like xpics and babenet, these scammers will eventually be shut down and the people who are still around will end up paying the price, just like we have in the past.

I understand your point as far as your revenue is concerned, but I hope you have a system in place to change links quick once a sponsor gets their processing shut down.

To clarify, I don't think x-sells in general are a scam....I think that hiding them below the submit button and not disclosing enough info about them is a scam.....this practice has become more and more common and the people doing that might affect the ability of anyone else to offer any time of x-sell in the future.

I don't see them going away any time soon. The shady ones where its under the submit button or the ones which force you into it (even if you uncheck it) will go away, but so long as its clearly defined, I see it staying for a long time. Worst case scenario is I see prechecked not being allowed.

If only those people understood what you just said and took it in and changed.

I have had this convo many times with people... lately it's been inside of my company and we are trying to find ways to stave off the recession. But you can't do anything clever because people just care about ratios and the $ at the end. I could rant so hard right now but I'm going to stop.

At least I'm not the only one that sees this.

X-sells are always a scam because it is trying to force products on users that they did not want in the first place. I feel that even having x-sells above the signup button will hurt sales because the user will see that and think the site is shady and therefore exit.

one simple fact is that this industry is highly disorganized and dysfunctional and full of self destructive, self serving, lazy people who gravitate to the point of least resistance like water.. then blame tube sites when it stops working.

it would be nice to see someone make positive changes and do the right thing for surfers, themselves and webmasters and the industry as a whole. but in my opinion, its naive to expect to not be punished for it.
