Post what ya got and fuck the stupid critics. People that play expertly and professionaly often know the fuck all nothing about modes and careless about them. Theory is for morons that tend to be non creative with exception of a few who happen to have both Talent and creativity. You get to a point where you feel nothing you do on a guitar is right if you follow theory to close. I put the book down on theory alot of the time they make for great references on occasion but theory is not the end all be all. If Yngway had half a brain on theory he would have said something more potent than studying modes to play better. ALot of guys just talk that shit and really got no idea what they are saying. What he posted is like saying, "Oh yeah I didnt like what I heard but I should sound technical and just throw in these big words people use in music theory to sound smart..." :1orglaugh |

I dropped the Low E to the D thats it. And that D is probably not a D that is tuned to E.:1orglaugh If I jam with someone and they got a base I say hand it over pluck the string and then tune the rest of what I got to what they had. As long as the combined instrumentation comes together in Tune its all good to avoid seriously fucked up noise. |
actually, his post read like polite and constructive criticism. lighten up you freak.

Oh just drop the modes on the floor and say learn those and then tell me that the bending in an improv is all wrong?:1orglaugh He can fuck right off. What kind of advice is that? This shit is not Joe Satriani and I fucken bend string like I want to. Infact every good player bends the way they bend. Few guitarist's actually ever agree on what is a proper bend vs a wrong one and why they are done in the first place. Vibrato's are all different to and not all guitarist do a vibrato exactly like someone else. GUitar presents an opportunity for someone to express themselves yet most guitarists choose to express other's peoples works rather than looking inward to tell thier own story. You can say oh yeah the bend to a 1/2 or full step to the string below to fake your way on a note is the only way to bend and thats patently false. Thats not why people bend strings when playing 100% of the time. If you bend good you know you can bend where ever you want to and pick up the bend somewhere else on the fret board. I know where those spots are. Infact in my Miserable little stunt above I bend a shit load and its not all for the sake of reaching somewhere else on the fret board but it's in there and I do it by habit. |

you need to relax.. I was just stating my opinion. Never did I say you sucked or that I was great.. I was just saying what I felt.. You may think theory is useless, but many others don't. I guess these days you're not allowed to give your own opinion without someone taking it way out of context.

I didnt ask anyone to like it or hate it and trying to Justify my own fucking around seems silly. Especially when you see what I did up there and want to swill about theory:thumbsup No hate here man, no love lost;) But theory is stupid, for every pro out there that is educated in theory there are 5 others that make 10 times more money that never took a lesson in thier life. So the money proves theory is shit and anyone that takes guitar seriously puts Theory in its place. Its Just theory! I can get crazy and talk theory all day infact I love it but it's not what makes an artist nor defines his place to those that likes what they do on guitar. I have had Satch fanboi's tear me a new ass hole, but the metal heads loving what I do. It just depends who you play for and if you do not play for yourself you lost site of what guitar is all about. |
I know that you weren't. I just have the habit of giving my opinion. I don't do it to offend anyone. It's just the way I am. Also, I didn't say to go to school and learn music theory. My point is that knowing the different mode, scales etc. can help. It doesn't hurt to learn new things. I'm not gonna sit here and talk theory since that's boring, but I was just saying that it's hurts no one to learn modes and shit.
