I've been watching it off and on since 5 of 20 or so. Most of the legends got knocked out by noob web geeks though. Not as exciting if the Pros aren't there.

They're on a dinner break right now.
Dennis Phillips from St Louis started the final table as the chip leader with 26.3 million before he dropped down to about 8 million, but he's won a couple of big pots to get back into it. He reserved 359 seats for friends to watch him play. Chip counts: Ivan Demidov 30,725,000 Peter Eastgate 27,175,000 Dennis Phillips 26,950,000 Ylon Schwartz 20,475,000 Scott Montgomery 20,300,000 Darus Suharto 10,600,000 Average Stack: 22,813,333 Craig Marquis from Arlington, TX was the first one eliminated at the final table on the 52nd hand. Darus Suharto from Toronto rivered a king to make broadway and beat his trip 7's. Kelly Kim from LA went out in 8th place on the 53rd hand. He only had 150K after his big blind and didn't show his hand after Suharto's pair of nines with a ten kicker beat out Russian Ivan Demidov's six kicker. Chino Rheem was 7th. He went all in with AK against Peter Eastgate from Denmark who had AQ. The flop was Q57, followed by 9 and 4.

Darus Suharto is eliminated in 6th place by fellow Canadian Scott Montgomery who hits the nut flush on the turn.
Suharto's A8 was dominated by Montgomery's AQ before the KJ2 of spades flop. |

*********** SPOILER ALERT ***********
Hand #274 - Ivan Demidov Eliminated in 2nd Place ($5,809,595); Peter Eastgate Wins the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event! $9,152,416 Winners Share Peter Eastgate has the button. He limps in and Ivan Demidov checks the big blind. The flop comes down 2d Ks 3h. Action is checked to Eastgate, who bets 1.25 million. Demidov calls, then checks again when the 4c hits the turn. Eastgate doesn't slow down, firing out a bet of 2 million more. Demidov counts to twenty, then check-raises to 6 million. With that bet, he has committed half of his stack to the pot. It could be the point of no return if Eastgate comes along. Eastgate thinks things over for about thirty seconds and then calls. When he does, everyone in the gallery rises expectantly to their feet. The river is the 7s. Demidov announces all in and Eastgate snap-calls. Could this be it? Demidov shows first, tabling 4h 2h for two pair, fours and deuces. Eastgate is next to show, turning Ad 5s over -- he's made a wheel! It's all over! Ivan Demidov has been eliminated in second place, earning $5,809,595 for his remarkable run through this tournament. Peter Eastgate has been crowned the champion of the 2008 World Series of Poker's Main Event. He is the youngest ever, breaking the record held by Phil Hellmuth, Jr. for the last 19 years. |
