Instead of thinking about shooting him with the gun, once you realized his weapon wasn't the threat you thought it was, you should have shot him with your camera. Pics of him pointing a weapon at your family member, loaded or otherwise, is pretty strong evidence.

Seriously, what is it that everyone has against a 9mm? If you're shooting defensive loads, the expansion difference between a 9mm and .45 is about 1/10 of an inch. Add to that the ability to fire more quickly and more accurately and with less practice. Plus - nearly 2x the rounds in the magazine, 3x if you can LE mags.

most people that own guns just go to the range and shoot targets and think they are experts..

if you have taken a tactical training course and done speed drills and then practice those drills regularly, it doesnt matter what you shoot 9 mm or 45..

DE is a novelty gun, anyone who mentions it for any kind of protection is a fucking moron... 9mm is a great gun for any suitation, yes 45 is better but who cares. This whole argument is stupid

*chuckles* See my above post. I'm married to a cop. I outshoot him in speed drills at the range. We play around with some tactical stuff at the range, like moving the target and pausing, while the other shoots, using the range wall as "cover." I've learned and practiced some tactical stuff out in the desert. I mentioned this in another gun thread, but I figured being on a girl with a low post count for the reason no one responded.

I have smalls hands. I simply cannot comfortably fire a .45 beyond 2-3 shots. But I shoot consistently within the 8 ring on a silhouette with a 9mm at 25 yards.

people forget about the adrenaline factor when in a fight or flight situation and how poor that can make an untrained person shoot.

I hear from hub all the time - "in a high pressure situation, you always revert to your most basic level of training." I guess that's why military and LE train repetitively.

I've been in that fight or flight situation with the shotgun in my hands. The only reason the idiotic 16 yr old that broke into my house didn't end up with his brains on my kitchen wall, is because I had an open door at my back.

It's amazing though, the clarity of thought and the number of things that go through your mind in a split second when faced with something like that - up to and including, "Do I *really* want to clean grey matter off the counter where I cook?"
