FREE 10-digit PHONE NUMBER SERVICE? Are there any still around?

Back in 1999 there were tons of these totally free voicemail phone number services. There are a few easy to find ones that have trial free periods but I was wondering if there were any completely free phone number (10 digit numbers, NOT with extensions) around anymore.

I tried http://www.laservoicemail.com/ but apparently the system partially owned by ebay is not able to leave a voicemail. A number that accepts texting would work.

I'm gonna take a walk and look for a payphone.

There's paid solutions for sure. I'll just keep hunting around. But CL is really changing. You now need a phone number verified account even to post in general community, house for rent and artist sections....

Do you mean that payphones do not have a number that someone can dial and it goes directly to that payphone and makes it ring?

If that is what you mean I think you may either be mistaken or it is just a regional thing. Many of the few remaining phones around here either have numbers listed or you can call someone with caller ID where it shows the number. Then if you dial that number it goes to that payphone.

Most payphone numbers are prolly already banned. I'm just starting to face this today so I'm still brainstorming.

Looks like disposible forwarding numbers* are probably the best way to go unless there's a real trustworthy PVA seller out there.

*There's got to be some free sites out there somewhere that at least accept free incoming SMS. I'll keep looking....
