The web has made it easier than ever before to get a free education, and you'd join the ranks of great thinkers in history who were also self-taught, like Joseph Conrad, Albert Einstein, Alexander Graham Bell, Paul Allen, Agatha Christie and Ernest Hemingway. You, too, can be an autodidact; the breadth of free educational materials available online is absolutely astonishing.

    Note: Many colleges and universities offer free courses online in the form of podcasts, lectures, tutorials and full-blown online classes. Most of these courses, while extremely smart-making, will NOT award any college credits or degrees.
    if you just want to learn, it can be free.. you won't get credits, but you'll be more edumacated!

                  what I was going to post is that MIT was doing this, check this shit out its INSANE!

                  This is OpenCourseWare from MIT. You can go there and see 1800 courses and download FULL lecture notes, assignments with solutions, exams with solutions, tests and all of that, as well as watch the actual video of the lecture happening.

                  Insane! 100% free, no registration or anything, so that means that even the most isolated person living in the most third world country if taught to write and read and use a computer can pretty much do ANYTHING from there, including getting the same education that some guy 2000 miles away is paying $20k a year for!

                  Of course you don't get the actual certification or to work with people/professors but you do learn and you get the knowledge.

                  I think this is the greatest thing ever!!

                                  I think that is pretty darn awesome. I am off to see what I can learn. There are a lot of things that I have an interest in but not to the level to work for a degree.

                                          too bad there is not some kind of standardized deparmental type examination testing you could go to so if you learn everything there is to know that is involved in obtaining a bachelor's degree in a field that you could go, write some tests, and prove your knowledge and be awarded the degree
