After 2000 he was going to become a Democrat, but didn't do it thinking ahead to this election. Now he has no reason to pander to the far right anymore. He will move back to the center.

Sec. of Defense would be the next best way for him to close out his career, and both sides would support this.

only if i can stick him on the front lines and have palin drive him out of the green zone to deliver the "we're fucking outta here papers" to the iraqi president.

i've had enough of those two for the foreseeable future.

They have complete opposite views on foreign policy. It would make no sense. I think Republican Chuck Hagel will be the next Secretary of Defense. He is more decorated militarily than McCain and understands Iraq is a dumb fucking mistake.

I think that's a great idea.

The governor of Arizona is a Democrat, so she would choose McCain's replacement when he resigns to become Secretary of Defense.

After the election to fill McCain's Senate seat, then he is fired as Defense Secretary due to differences on policy.
