By 9 p.m. in California, 54.5 % of voters favored passing Prop 8, as the measure is known, and 45.5% were against it, with 20.9% of precincts voting, according to the Secretary of State. However, both sides cautioned that the vote could be very close and that it might still be early to declare a winner

will go to the wire on this. keep in mind that the more liberal areas in ca will take much longer to report final results than the sticks. i believe prop 8 will die. i hope anyhow. let people do what they fucking want.

I don't see why two same sex adults shouldn't be allowed to marry each other, how does it really bother us straight individuals in any way btw?

This legislation doesn't go far enough. It's just ungodly for those heathen faggots to be able to consummate their filthy degenerate sex acts at all. They should be castrated or shot.

I would not presume it has lost just yet though with all the church money dumped into it running the commercials they did, very good chance it will fall in the Yes category but it is not over yet.

California gave up electronic ballots, its pen and paper - takes a bit longer to get the votes in and the conservative counties can report much faster due to smaller populations.

my guess is its probably because of tax purposes. when i used to live in LA, i abused the "domestic partnership" bs so I could get lower car insurance rates (i was living with my gf who i was dating for 4 years, i was basically married). i guess it was a gray area between being official married and not.

California is not a common law state.

yes i know, but for companies like health and car insurance, you can claim (or could before i left) a domestic partnership and get the same discount as a married couple.

domestic partnership and common law are completely different

I think it would be safe to guess that a large percentage of those people voting yes would also love to see porn much more severely regulated

listening to them debate on the radio recently, the 'yes' supporters are a pretty intolerant bunch and they have no concept whatsoever of what individual rights are

they see nothing wrong with legislating based on what their idea of morality is

But why should they not get the same rights? To me this is no different than saying blacks can't marry.
