UK Folks: Now don't joke about dead hookers

Jeremy Clarkson makes a joke about truck drivers killing prostitutes and now he is the the focus of a 'standards' complaints campaign. The BBC have done this to themselves by giving in once over Brand/Ross. Now it will be complaint after complaint.

Its quiet worring how the daily mail brigade seem to have so much power and voice again in this country.

It only takes about 2 complaints to get something pulled which makes no sense surely more people didnt find it offensive.
You should see some of the ads etc that have been pulled cause some up tight fuck complained !
Did you ever see the ad for Oasis drinks with the cactus guy ? That got taken off the air cause she looked abit young ! FFS its fine to be pregnant at 12 in a soap but not in a tv AD ?does she look that young ?

The worst thing about those were here accent and that they were just dumb.

Part of what I heard was that the complaints said it was encouraging internet grooming. Um, when did they mention cactus guy was on the 'net?

to be honest i bet clarkson couldn't give a shit about any complaints against him and its not like the bbc will sack him as that would be the most stupid thing they could do as i bet he earns them more money than any other presenter.

I remember a few years back when they pulled a TV commercial for a Toronto radio station (CFTR) that showed a guy who'd literally pissed himself laughing in an elevator (listening to their morning show on the way to work).

I always thought it was the funniest commercial I'd ever seen - they only aired it a short while before CRTC considered it 'distasteful'.

They won't sack him but they could go the fine path they did with Ross. They also couldn't sack Ross because of the huge amount of work he does it would cost more to replace him in all those shows he does. Plus, he probably had a clause in his contract about payment if sacked that would have pissed of tabloid readers even more.

By giving in once over a fairly minor comment they have painted themselves into a corner. Can they say comments about a grown woman sleeping with a known playboy is worse than jokes about murdering women? To me complaints about either in huge numbers is lame but interesting to see the frenzy play out.

The last thing any of us need is a 'decency' witch hunt. Especially with the conservative front bench pretending to be offended by things now too.

Hey Sarah - Have you lived in the UK long?

There is a long history of the BBC acting upon complaints received from license payers. BBC celebrities getting in trouble / fired for things say have said or done in nothing new in the UK.

Only 12 years I know the history but even anybody that lives here has to admit last week was insane. In the years I have been here there has been nothing to that degree.
