I think our electoral process is a train wreck.
No doubt one may quote history to support any cause, as the devil quotes scripture.

In Virginia, McCain's campaign asked a federal judge Monday to order state election officials to count late-arriving absentee ballots from U.S. troops overseas. The suit requests that ballots mailed by Tuesday and arriving as late as November 14 be tallied in Virginia, where McCain has trailed Obama in recent polls.

As someone who lives abroad and went through a massive pain in the ass to vote I can say I don't care how long they take to count so long as my vote gets counted. Will one vote make a difference? Only to me.

Voting really should be as easy and secure as using your damn ATM card no matter where you happen to be at, at the time. Then we also would have no damn reason not knowing exact numbers right at midnight.

I heard in the 2000 election that overseas votes are basically worthless as the election is done by the time they are counted. Sort of made me skip it this year as why bother?

Absentee ballots are most always counted, though in some instances, they're added some time afterwards.

Provisional ballots, on the other hand, often are NOT counted unless an election is very close, and even then they still may not be counted for numerous reasons.

On a related note, Obama has already won in Dixville, NH - the first polling place in the nation to close and report results...

                    Obama 15; McCain 6; Nader 0.

                      Fucking-a!!!!

Go to your ATM, punch that shit in, confirm it and donate $5 to a cause of your choice, based on options provided. THAT would be a killer system.

He's doing that because he's counting on the military vote?

Then people would scream national ID cards, NWO, Etc.. Lost cause, even though we sort of have national ID numbers (SSI #) already.

You would think at some point we would have a system of voting that was the same everywhere and it was tested and worked great. Where I live we vote by mail. A couple of weeks before the election you get you ballot in the mail and you can take your time and fill it out then mail it in or drop it off at a precinct. We have a high voter turnout, you don't have to wait in line and you can vote naked if you want.

It seems crazy to me that some states vote one way and others another. The craziest is the electronic voting that has no paper trail in case of a recount.

That's why I never vote absentee....it feels better when my vote is counted on election day.
