You bitches with shitty code and crappy outsourced coders.

Feel free to hit me up.

I'm damn good - or so everyone tells me. I'm taking new clients on a case by case basis. Shit, I got 3 in the last week by reference alone. (Thank you A - a Mr. Limpy is coming your way, soon!)

DISS CLAM HER:
  • I don't do AJAX, because it's pointless. I will make it work, but your webbies can make it prettier. I don't like wasted calls.
  • I don't make Wordpress better. mrkris makes it suck less, but it still sucks.
  • I can't make a P2 500/256MB act line a P4/50,000,000Ghz with 239,234,384MB. There ARE limits.
  • I like pie, but I only accept currency.

Feel free to hit me up. I won't make fun of you on GFY, even if you waste my time.

HOLY SHIT I REPOST FOR EVERY GODDAMNED LETTER TYPED! Have you ever seen that on dialup? Those are still at least 20% of your clientele. Don't make them sit so you can do a SELECT WHERE LIKE "%".$CRAP."%"

Grandpa doesn't care. He's the one with the credit card. You want otherwise? I'll write the bank-end code and make it Smarty-friendly. Some webby can make it pretty.

So set a limit on how often you ajax.update, say 3 seconds or so? And in the meantime, just fill up a nice div that says "We are searching..."

Personally I think that's much easier than redirecting "Grandpa" to a whole new page for his results instead of just giving him a top 10 to choose from that best match?

Heh.

When was the last time you offered outsourcing?

Most of the time they want INSTANT UPDATES on a VPS with 256MB or less of RAM. That's why I don't even offer it. Yes, to create a simple loadable hash is no problem, but obviously, that's just the icing.

Are you good on Windows Server?
I'm having a hard time debugging a simple batch script and doing some basic admin stuff.

I have a custom-made script that I need a extra feature added onto... is this something that you can do or do you prefer to work only from scratch?

I can figure it out, but UNIX is my home. I will make it work, but I am not ashamed to admit there will be those who know more than me on this platform.

Depends on how shitty it is, honestly. Feel free to hit me up, and I'll take a look for free. I don't charge unless it's a big task to figure out, or I take the job.

I probably won't answer too much email tonight, it's been one hell of an evening - but anything you send me will be read, and responded to tomorrow, promise.

I respect someone that can write clean code. Too many people don't know what they are doing and create more work to clean up their mess then it would be to start from scratch.

Great... tomorrow I will write out some documentation about what my script does and what I want added to it.

I will write a small, simple script, rather than import 5,000 Pear modules if it will decrease load, server time, and make life easier. Hell, if it requires any caching, I'll generally offer a file, db, or SHM based cache to keep things low if you are a small system.. if not, sometimes I cheat and use a file that's global across all hosts, and there are other options like mod_auth_tkt, etc, from there. It all depends on the requirements, and requests of those who need the work done.

I started, and still do admin work (I'm sure a few will pop up here), so I know both sides of that coin. Admins should get less work; code should do what it needs to and make the life of the admin easier.

If someone wants me to use OOP in a custom class, I have no problem with it. However, if it's 10 lines including sanitation, I will suggest it not be a requisite, but I will still provide what is asked of me, even if I disagree.

Drop it in an email to grouch%40grouchyadmin. I'll look it over, then may ask you to give me ssh, or the primary script's code, to see what I can do.

Me too, trying to port a software from Linux to Windows and I'm stuck on the batch script to run it all, simple things like extracting the PID (ie: equivalent to doing ./program.sh and then echo $!) on Windows is a lot tougher than I thought it would be.

Or figuring out why a program hangs when I disconnect from Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) but works fine when I'm logged in. Simple shit that works really easily in linux but on winblows, who knows why it won't work, lol.

That's the problem. You're trying to trap exits, not crashes. I'll take a look, and see what I can do for you. I'm still more of a PHP/Bourne/Perl person than anything, though.

Half the reason it hangs is because a lot of that software grabs the windows equivalent of your "terminal", and when you disconnect, it's not "nohupped". Why is the bastard process attaching to the console, anyhow?!

You're a perl lover too huh ;)

Yeah, I've tried to get the equivalent of $! on linux which I'm pretty sure isn't going to happen. At this point I'm using "start 'unique identifier' programname.exe" and going to write a win32 perl script to extract the PID of unique identifier. Its really BS, but it seems like that'll work.

I'm not sure how to get around the hanging launches though. Ironically enough, its hanging on the "start programname.exe" from above. So fixes the PID problem, and creates another...

You're a shitty hack. I can respect that.

Look at Winternals (Now owned by Microsoft), they have some fork() compatible tools that return codes. If that doesn't help, I'd be more than happy to hold your hand as we skip through Redmond.

From what I have been told, it's not a hard script to code right.... yet nobody can do it. I need simple features that will not put a huge load on the server.

I look forward to talking to you tomorrow

I hit you up on ICQ, but did not hear a response. I'll follow up tomorrow. It shouldn't be too difficult by the sounds of it, but depending on the CMS, it may be a PITA.

I don't always turn icq on at home considering I'm on it all day long. We can talk in detail tomorrow

Extracting the return codes I can manage to extract it with some coding, its the hanging of Windows when I logout which is a bitch. Its weird because the man pages (well, /? pages) says it runs in a new window unless its launched by a batch script. It doesn't say how to get it to run if its thru a batch script though, lol.

You're looking at third party shit for that.. but Winternals should do it for you.
