obama alrerady breaking commitments

pretty interesting:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/...ama/index.html

(CNN) -- You may have heard that Wednesday night Barack Obama will be on five different TV networks speaking directly to the American people.

He bought 30 minutes of airtime from the different networks, a very expensive purchase. But hey, he can afford it. Barack Obama is loaded, way more loaded than John McCain, way more loaded than any presidential candidate has ever been at this stage of the campaign.

Just to throw a number out: He has raised well over $600 million since the start of his campaign, close to what George Bush and John Kerry raised combined in 2004.

Without question, Obama has set the bar at new height with a truly staggering sum of cash. And that is why as we approach this November, it is worth reminding ourselves what Barack Obama said last November. iReport.com: Your chance to ask Obama a question

One year ago, he made a promise. He pledged to accept public financing and to work with the Republican nominee to ensure that they both operated within those limits.

Then it became clear to Sen. Obama and his campaign that he was going to be able to raise on his own far more cash than he would get with public financing. So Obama went back on his word.

He broke his promise and he explained it by arguing that the system is broken and that Republicans know how to work the system to their advantage. He argued he would need all that cash to fight the ruthless attacks of 527s, those independent groups like the Swift Boat Veterans. It's funny though, those attacks never really materialized.

'No bias, no bull'
Get the latest on the presidential race on "Campbell Brown: No Bias, No Bull"
8 ET Monday through Friday on CNN

see full schedule »
The Washington Post pointed out recently that the bad economy has meant a cash shortage among the 527s and that this election year they have been far less influential.

The courageous among Obama's own supporters concede this decision was really made for one reason, simply because it was to Obama's financial advantage.

On this issue today, former Sen. Bob Kerrey of Nebraska, an Obama supporter, writes in The New York Post, "a hypocrite is a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue -- who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings. And that, it seems to me, is what we are doing now."

For this last week, Sen. Obama will be rolling in dough. His commercials, his get-out-the-vote effort will, as the pundits have said, dwarf the McCain campaign's final push. But in fairness, you have to admit, he is getting there in part on a broken promise.

It is quite simple:

When the candidate / party that you DO NOT support flip flops, contradicts themselves, etc. It is an outright lie.

When the candidate / party that you DO support does it, it is a change of strategy or differing decision based on "new" information.

Who cares. Really. The GOP have openly cheated with voter suppression for years. Im glad Obama is smart enough to have went the route he did. Mccain would have gotten killed in donations from real people anyways. Its Mccain that was so stupid that he didnt realize he was being conned. I like that in a president. Mccain is a whiney pussy.

Because top-of-the-class Harvard grads and former presidents of the Harvard Law Review are typically 'all talk' and have been well documented to 'not have a clue'.

edit: If he runs the country even half as well as he ran his campaign, then we all have a right to be optimistic.

I heard that McCain/Palin are both honest hardworking everyday people just like me and joe the plumber who are using lunch money saved since kindergarten to fund their campaigns and have never gone back on their word about anything ever, oh and they love jesus and will seek his guidance in every political decision, how could I not vote for them.

(puts blinders back on - gets back in line with rest of sheep)

something to be said for emotional maturity as well, however I do agree with you. the prez is merely a 'front' for one big biz concern or another. no other way to get into office $.02

palin is obviously a nutter however mccain has experience with big biz and he's got some crappy military experience.

let me ask you this: being in the service in a 'hard place' who would you want as your leader? a guy that belongs to a hate whitey church or a guy that spent time in the glass house?

one thing for sure, having obama will cool some foreign relation problems right away and yet do we really wanna be best friends with Iran, Syria, North Korea, Bolivia, Venezuelan etc... ?

I wonder what the Russians and the Chinese are thinking about all this or do they even care?

This is a good point.

Obama met the Clintons in battle and killed them.

Obama met John McCain in battle. And if he wins, despite McCain's background as a military leader, he will have beaten him in a fair fight.

That qualifies him to be president, IMO.

Obama should be praised since he refused to accept tax money to finance his campaign.

McCain should be embarassed that he is funding his campaign with tax money.

To whom did Obama promise to refuse private campaign donations and only accept tax money for financing? He never made that promose to me.

I wouldn't put anything pass the corrupt Republican political machine. I want Obama to crush them and make them disappear.

Obama has taken the high road to win this election. He never called McCain a terrorist, never brought Palin's husband affiliation with an anti-American group. He never questioned her family values. He won purely on the issues and staying cool as ice under fire.

Go away Republicans...you had you time.

Dude you really need to start thinking for yourself. If you think McCain's military experience will do him any good at this age you are delusional. Since when is talking with an enemy a bad thing? Well, since the Republican party said so, probably. "Best friends?" Wow you sound like a child.

how did you reach the conclusion that I don't think for myself?
I think sitting in a Vietnamese prisoner of war camp definitely did some positive things for McCain's resolve and emotional maturity. there is no way to survive that without a change to your inner life, emotions and thoughts.

all 'hyperbole, sarcasm and dogma' aside would, those changes be good for our country?

is he just to fucking old to take the pressure? the reality is I read authors in the 70's that write better now than when they were in theirs 40's. so saying McCain is fucked because he's old is a non starter for sure.

if you have actual information, not just insults and biased over blown opinions of yourself, I would love to read them. $.02

The solution is clear. McCain's campaign needs a government financed bailout. The millions of tax funded dollars which McCain has already received are not enough. McCain only needs a few hundred million dollar loan from the treasury and then he can compete with Obama on a level playing.

Say no to private, volunatary campaign financing.

Say yes to tax funded campaign financing ... or even better, simply borrow the money from the US treasury instead of raising taxes. The treasury is already too much in debt to pay back their loans anyways.

Of Course!

How can elections be rigged if a popular, outsider candidate receives lots of donations from millions of disgruntled Americans? It makes it very unfair to the government approved candidate.

If the fed gov wanted you to give money to politicans, they would take it from you via IRS.

All candidates say they will accept public financing if they don't think they will raise enough money on their own. You would have to be a fool to limit yourself to that amount if you find out later on you can raise more on your own.

That's just a dumb thing to even bring up. Think of it this way, Obama has already saved the tax payer money by accepting donations rather than using federal funds. Not to mention most of his money has come in donations of under $200 that damn sure is an amazing accomplishment.

Didn't they both agree upfront to not run negative campaigns? Where'd that one go? lol

Who at this point thinks that anyone other than a more or less lifetime politician is going to run for and have a chance to win the presidency? All they do is lie.

Obama is just smart. Of course any intelligent person would not accept public financing if he could raise more money alone. Obama was best of his class in Harvard, no fucking Bush.

That is absolute balderdash.

The man is credited as running one of the most successful, modern grassroots campaigns in history and all you have is a hunch based on what exactly?

Well run, with an unprecedented amount of $$$ - I wonder if there be unprecedented taxes to continue this plan. Great deal if you don't pay taxes, like 41% of Americans though.

Is this the same "commitment" that McCain directly made, about not slandering or using attack ads and simply not standing for them?

Obama says he will reduce military spending and increase taxes on the rich. He is a fiscal conservative (by today's standards).
