If I sound rude in my initial reaction it is because this affiliate has been with us for a very long time. When the account was dropped I actually didn't realize right away who it was. The emails were sent out, and there were no replies back. We took the first step before suspension. This affiliate has all my contacts, emails, IMS, etc. He contacted me once on AIM, by the time I got back he wasn't on anymore, so I couldn't get a hold of him. After his initial message, he makes this post. How does that make me feel? Doing business for over 5 years, with thousands of affiliates. We take care of everyone. So to make it seems like we don't be creating a post like this, by an affiliate who has been around us, and knows us, for so long, is a bit backstabbing. So yea, maybe I was a bit impolite. Was this whole post really warranted?Your answer is very rude, impolite and confrontating... to sum it up : very bad public relations.
With all the affiliate programs out there, everybody who read that is definitly not going to use you in the future.
Why lowering the percentage to 5 % instead of just suspending the account ? it sounds like a very shady way to keep the affiliate sending sales while suspended.Comment

Let's be clear. He sent about 3 sales, since this change was made. His account was only dropped for a short amount of time and was due to be suspended tomrrow, the first work day of the week. So let's not try to make it look like I tried to make a big scheme here.Comment

My terms are discussed every time I provide an affiliate with member's area access. Wether it be by ICQ or email. This affiliate, has been with us for a long time and should clearly know what we consider off limits. If an affiliate is using material from our cash program directly, then there is no way to violate terms. It is only the select few who contact me directly on a regular basis that get member's access to use content they choose, that I have the same speech with over and over.Comment

A shave is a shave -- you don't shave affiliates EVER. Are you now suspending his account because he took offense to your shaving him? That's bullshit. Thought suspension wasn't scheduled until tomorrow? I know Bods and he's honest as the day is long, so if you sent emails to him they weren't received.
Did you try contacting Bods on AIM (he is easily reached) because it seems to me after these 5 years you might have attempted other methods of communication too. I hope you refund his sales and straighten this out quickly. You have a good program and you produce high quality regularly updating websites. You should be an example in this industry of what to do, not an example of what not to do...
Btw, you should have a TOS because us small webmasters often get our promo from bigger sites because your last Ann Angel promo was mid August? Even us small webbies like to look fresh with the big boys and I could be in violation myself of these unposted TOS and not know it and get shaved.Comment

I always love the argument that GFY isn't a support board for so and so program. You're absolutely right, it is a webmaster board, and if you do something that a webmaster considers shady or unethical they are going to discuss it on this board with other webmasters...Comment

There is no reason he did not receive 3 emails. We took this step first before issuing the drop. I suspended it now instead of tomorrow because I don't need it to be a bigger thing than it really is. So what is today, what is tomorrow?A shave is a shave -- you don't shave affiliates EVER. Are you now suspending his account because he took offense to your shaving him? That's bullshit. Bods has been with us for a long time and I would think by now he clearly knows what not to use. If a webmaster is getting promo stuff from other sites that are violating terms, than chances are they won't read my terms. Let's keep in mind that this situation is in relation to a single webmaster who KNEW the terms and still violated them. Even after being notified.
Email is the single best way to get a hold of someone, from my own experience of over 5 years. It's difficult to get a hold of someone on AIM when they are not online since messages aren't sent through even if they're signed off, like on ICQ. Bods has his IM turned on at the moment, and my complaints have been sent to his IM, still without reply.
Not saying he is a bad guy, never did. What I said was that this post was completely unnecessary. Just look at the title of the thread. He is implying that I am not taking care of my affiliates, which is clearly not the case, when HE was the one in violation of some simple terms.Comment

Where at is your TOS?
Where in your "agreement" does it state your allowed to lower ones percentage for any reason? Especially when it says 50% of all sales and 50% of all re bills for life. *Though it does say they may earn up to 60%.
Also notice your advertisements state 50 - 75% payouts. However your Text link advertising now says 10% on all referrals. No paying 75% of all sales. You may again want to explain that too since there is no TOS. I figure one would and should already be expecting 75% of all sales at least right now with 50% rev share (fair assumption).
I am also curious where in your agreement, or at least email to new affiliates does it explain about the blocking or area's - no matter how small of a region?Comment

Pretty obvious? Once its on the web its on the web. Your site isnt the only place it winds up. If I closed my sites tomorrow the content would be still be all over the web forever.Comment

Well, glad to see everything worked out. The Digital Angel sites are some good websites. Get this, they update their websites! Still skip step 2 next time guys -- contact the problem affiliate, wait a couple days, and then suspend the affiliate account until it gets cleared up.Comment

Lol her parents dont know yet.Further, 403 errors are caused in NY and NJ, that's it. This is done for some pretty obvious reasons. If you feel you need to pull the program because we protect our models, then so be it. We can release single IPS from these areas if needs be. So if you are an affiliate and have a problem, we can always release your IP.

What terms were violated?Nice to see that instead of a simple email shot our way to resolve the problem, you make a post about it on GFY. Had an email been sent the problem would have already been taken care of.
That being said, we sent 3 emails to this account regarding violation of our terms of using certain types of material for promo issues. Instead of suspending the account, we dropped it to 5% to get your attention. Apparently it did, so perhaps now you can take care of the issues you were emailed about so we can bump you back up to 50%.
This is an issue only relating to you since you violated some terms. No one else is affected so no one needs to worry. Our business practices are always legit and 100% secure.
Perhaps now you can send a message out to me or contact me via all the contact info you have for me instead of making such a post. That is why we have customer support contacts. Last time I checked, GFY wasn't a customer support contact for DigitalAngelDollarsComment

Sound ridiculous to me that a site owner would try and tell his models they are protecting them by trying to block their home states from accessing the sites. Someone they know is going to end up seeing them online anyway on an affiliates site or elsewhere. I prefer to hire models that love porn and don't mind being seen all over. I was even able to pull this off back in the 90's when I filmed in NY & NJ. Hot girls are plentiful nowadays, no need to mislead them with the idea that a simple ip block will keep them anonymous. And cutting an affiliate's percentage down to 5% for any reason doesn't make sense either.Last edited by Jim_Gunn; 10-26-2008, 07:21 PM.Comment

seriously!
I'm so sick of threads like these. People should come to the board after well documented accounts of trying to get in touch with the program, or contact with the program in question that is failing to come to resolution.

This is what has always made GFY entertaining... or are you here for the pulp news copypastas and [pic] threads?
Hell, I originally found this board because I wanted to bitch at lensman about his PPC program way back in the day.

I'm guessing the 403 policy is only created to give the model some type of false hope? A surfer/family member is much more likely to find them listed on a site like The Hun or the thousands of others just like it then they would by clicking a pay site link.Vacares - Web Hosting, Domains, O365, Security & More - Paxum and BTC Accepted

Yeah I don't know about blocking access to the main site, there's thousands of galleries remotely hosted on sites/blogs/forums/imagehosts everywhere, that the program doesn't have control over, so is IP blocking really going to protect the model from someone else seeing the content in the end? Probably not...
Seems like a lot of work for nothing.i like wafflesComment

Basically all they're guaranteeing is that the 1/8 th of the US population that lives in NY can't sign up, regardless how eager they might be after having seen the content on a third party site.Yeah I don't know about blocking access to the main site, there's thousands of galleries remotely hosted on sites/blogs/forums/imagehosts everywhere, that the program doesn't have control over, so is IP blocking really going to protect the model from someone else seeing the content in the end? You should just back off.....Sound ridiculous to me that a site owner would try and tell his models they are protecting them by trying to block their home states from accessing the sites. The Ip block was created at model's request. Since the block she hasn't been bothered by family or friends, they simply think the site is dead. This goes for all models. Sure they can find some content if they really search for it, but at least they won't be able to click on the site. If anything the girl now has the chance to say, ya I did it, but I don't do it anymore. Not like dad will keep searching the web for the pics. What was done is done and they can move on with their lives knowing the site "doesn't exist" anymore. This is not false hope nor is it a plot into luring models. I always explain clearly that her promo content on other sites won't be blocked. They understand that, but can sleep better at night knowing the site is blocked. If that makes them happy, I am happy to do it for them! Nothing wrong with keeping models happy.Comment

I've honestly never heard this done by any program ever. It seems if you don't want people to see you nude, you don't model nude. That's a big chunk of traffic and sales you give up and it'd be silly for anyone to promote.Further, 403 errors are caused in NY and NJ, that's it. This is done for some pretty obvious reasons. it's done on lots of solo girl sites - it doesn't work, geo-IP is at best 75% accurate, but if it makes the model feel better there's nothing wrong with it. it's just unfortunate in this case it's a huge state like NY/NJ rather than an Iowa or South Carolina.
i would not do it for a girl from a large state - if i did i'd let affiliates know.I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting. I've saved money, my hair is thicker, lost some weight too! Thanks Sly!Comment

Either way it is yours to run how you want. No matter what everything should be listed in plain sight via a terms of service so affiliates have that information to make their own choice before signing up. Same goes for how you handle violations, what content is usable and where.
Then would you please explain the signature. It clearly "now paying 75% of all sales".Comment
-
Fact is sales are as strong as ever, and this has not adversely affected us in ANY WAY. Therefore I am happy to do it for any of my girls if it helps them sleep better at night. I think affiliates of our sites will vouch for this. If I have to give up 2-5 sales a month from NY as opposed to the 50 per day a site gets, it's all worth it to keep a model happy.Comment
-
The signature is also accurate. Some affiliates who have contacted me who send larger amounts of traffic/ sales, will get bumped to 75% for a decided period of time as a reward for their efforts. We have also run promos in the past where everyone received 75% for a period of time. We will most likely do it again this Christmas for all affiliates.Comment
-
Perhaps it should then read up to 75% instead of how it currently reads. The signature is also accurate. We have also run promos in the past where everyone received 75% for a period of time. We will most likely do it again this Christmas for all affiliates.
You still have given tons of valid reasons to yourself and your business as to why you block an area, yet you have not given a single one as to why not just have a clear TOS that explains such that affiliates can read before they sign up.Comment

I can understand where people are coming from on both sides of this issue, but you really shouldn't use money/sales as a matter of leverage in disputes between a customer and the agent. Infact, in the real world thats pretty much considered theft.
If you don't pay your electric bill or cable bill, the company doesn't turn off half your service or readjust your rate to get your attention. If they mail you and you don't get your letters....or you don't respond...it gets suspended.
Sometimes good intentions don't always make for good business practices.
probably just a learning lesson for both parties.Comment
