Question 4 Seadoo/Jetski Owners

I was dropping mine off the other day to get winterized, and while the dude was tagging my machine we had gotten into an interesting discussion. He was saying that on my model of Seadoo, you really should be about waist deep before you open up the throttle on the Seadoo.

I found that interesting, but not completely unexpected. I had looked over the side, and saw the intake in the water pulling from a few feet down. I know on my old Yamaha Waverunning that it told you to be like knee deep.

What has been your experience?

I have a seadoo and that seems about right, it might be because they are generally bigger and heavier machines. Once you're going fast though the draft is pretty shallow, i can ride though 1-2ft no problem.

Its so you dont suck sand, rocks etc from the lake bottom up thru your impeller. I used to always push mine out a bit into deeper water.

Yeah that happened to me earlier this year. The gf was bringing it into dock, and did not cut the motor in time. All kinds of rocks at the access got caught. But to be fair, it was not that she drove it up into the rocks. She just came in to close.

$200 to replace the O rings. Luckily the impeller was scratched, but not destroyed. I had this happen on my first one years back. So I knew enough to cut the engine as soon as I heard the noise.

Yeah, you get up to 60 mph (55 knots) in like 5 seconds or some shit. Never timed it, but you are off like a fucking canon shot in no time.

Skis are a blast

Heres what I have always been told

the intake pulls from about 3 feet deep
so always be in at least 3 feet of water before taking off...

Try teaching your dog that he needs to be in deeper water
before throwing you off the back of the ski

Its crazy how you contort yourself when trying to get air..

No idea who these people are but when we were out on the skis
these guys just were not having a good day at all..
after we got the fire out we tied their boat to my big cruiser ski
and pulled them into shore

Let me tell you a little known fact about skiing around Tom...

He has a minimum distance requirement of about 30 feet.

Any closer than that and he'll wake or wave your ass right off the ski haha!

OMG I could tell some awesome stories. Afternoon river skiing at the old office, submarine man, hull-breaking-Tim, I could go on and on...lol

The river playing was always fun, even on the old ski's. I can't count the times we were skipping bodies across the river because we don't have the ability to play nice on the water...lol

Yeah, skiing with Tom is good times, always
