Show me how that the rules regarding what an unemployed person even was had not been changed during such periods. Oh wait huge numbers of people do not count as unemployed since they were not full time, or benefits ran out, or a whole fucking list of ways to fuck with the numbers.

Even though marginal rates are higher at the top, the wealthy in this country don't pay a disproportionate amount in taxes. The percentage of taxes they pay is in direct proportion (or less than direct proportion) to the percentage of wealth they hold.

Even though the marginal rate on the top tax bracket is 3.5 times higher than the marginal rate on the bottom bracket, when you look at what is actually paid (after deductions, loopholes, shelters, etc etc) the wealthy, by and large, pay a smaller percentage of their overall income in taxes than do the middle and lower classes, who don't have the resources to hire attorneys and accountants to get them out of their tax obligations.

Even if that weren't the case, I think it's laughable that people clearing over 250K per year are boo-hooing about paying another 4 cents on the dollar so that we can fix the health care system and pay down our $10 trillion debt, among other things.
