They are both great cameras. I have a Nikon D40x and I love it. its also a 10.2mp SLR like the D60.

Here are some pics I snapped of Lake Lanier the other night at sunset with it. These are straight off the memory card, no post or anything. ![]() ![]() |

according to Professional Photographer Pentax K100D Super and Olympus Evolt E-510 are best slr cameras under $1k. personally i have heard lots of good stuff on the evolt.

canon digital slrs take all the slr awards BUT nikon takes MOST of the lens awards.. http://www.ppmag.com/web-exclusives/...d-winners.html In my opinion lens is more important than camera.... |

Here's my 2cents, I'm a huge nikon fan (D300's) but I'm getting ready to dump all my gear for Canons. As a wedding photographer one fact I've learned year after year is that Canons have a MUCH better white balance then Nikons. Whites are white and Nikon refuses to fix the red shift. Now I know yes you can correct anything, but out of the box Canon's leave Nikon in the dust.

PRE = custom white balance setting Kelvin degrees = dial in the color temp i never ever ever set it on auto or any of the other pre-sets. i used to shoot with fuji s2, talk about warm skin tones.. you really have to watch the reds with this camera but this is one reason why fashion photogs loved it.. i do feel nikon is much more neutral, but possible canon is even more "cold".. dunno. |

The main reason is that Canon has way better customer service and they support there products for much longer that Nikon. An example is a Wireless transmitter i just purchased for a D200. Macs now use OS 10.5.5 but Nikon stopped updating their software at 10.3. making this brand new transmitter useless. Capture software was updated to Capture NX2 with no upgrade path from the older versions. There are lots of issues like this that i hate about Nikon ![]()
