OA Photography

Trying my hand at doing some stock photo stuff..... there's a couple of samples for desktop wallpaper on my site to start with. I'll add more periodically..... (if it looks like a promising avenue)....

(click the 'Downloads' link at the bottom....)

3 sizes are offered for now. Check 'em out and lemme know whatchu think..... I'm not a pro photographer, but I do have some photographic background... (a little...), and I'd like to expand on this, if even nothing more than at hobbyist level.

looks good amp.
unfortunately if i were to take a photo
of the scenery around me, one might expect to
see images of the pile of dogshit we refer to as Mt. Poop
in my neighbors yard. sure one may say thats disgusting
and rude of your neighbors, but i have been dilingently building
that mountain everyday with my blood sweat and tears. it takes alot of effort to wing my dogs shit up and over those fuckin bushes.

seriously though looks real good amp.

ok here's some constructive criticism for ya cause you asked

in the first photo the waterfall should have been pushed to the left hand side of the frame so that it flows into the picture and not the right edge of the frame... allow the eye to follow it down and come to rest within the frame

the second one is nice but not as interesting as the first could have been.

ok.... thanks... I guess...

was more looking for some input on the way they were shot.... not how they could have been shot... keep in mind, some of this stuff can only be shot from certain angles.... there's rocks and sheer walls and drop offs and cliffs and all kinds of crap here that prevent taking the shot from some better suited angle.

sort of... I mean, I put these on a mini-tripod with a slow burn to get the smooth water flow effect rather than a split second capture..... and I think it came out nice for my first few attempts... but I'd really like to somehow deepen the color of them with the camera rather than with a graphics proggy after the fact.... but when I open it up to blur the water, it seems to over expose the really light parts.... how do I find the middle ground..... or is there one?

ah i c.... that effect looks sweet...

wouldnt be afraid of using graphics proggy to dodge and burn areas of the photo as that is how the pro's would have done it in the darkroon in the old day...

guess the big problem with digital cameras is that they dont have the latitude of film in terms of contrast ranges etc... not sure how you would overcome that hotspot on the first one other than shooting on a cloudy day or a different time of day...

that's pretty much what I concluded here too.... just a particularly odd time of day there when I shot it... a few hours could have made a world of difference.... but I figured there was plenty of photography guys here so I may as well lay it out and get some feedback...

actually come to think of it an ND grad filter and a polarizer would prob have done the trick if u were wanting to work in camera

What a fucking prick you are! OK WE GET IT!! You live in a tropical paradise!! OK!! ENOUGH ALREADY!!

Fuck man, stop rubbing our noses in it!

On the other hand. I think they are nice pics. I (believe it or not) have a degree in photography. I think they are composed quite well. It looks like they were shot digitally and I'm not sure if your camera has this option, or if you even have a tripod. But I would also do a couple of variations of each pic. You got the skills so you might be able to pull it off in photoShop.

One variation would be closing down the fstop to increase exposure time to get a soft, fluffy, blurred waterfall. (You know what I'm describing) You'll obviously need a tripod. If you don't have one, or if you can't increase exposure time. I'd maybe snap of several pics of that waterfall, and in photoshop layer all the waterfalls on top of the other and blur/blend them all together. (that might work)

Also maybe take a super fast shot so that everything is at a total stand still.

Also on that second shot. Even It's a good shot. Also do one tighter. Or maybe apply the rule of thirds to it as well, maybe swing up to the right a little to let that cave are be center, and push the waterfall to the left more. So they can cram all their stupid icons in that area. (just a thought) Hey hit me up on ICQ... Maybe we could work out a deal of some kind.

yeah shoe... my camera can do all that... it can fully adjust for everything... I just haven't figured out what all the adjustments mean yet... lol

and I do have tripods... mini and full..... so, I got the gear.... it's just a matter of learning to use it and make it do what I want it to do.....

yeah its fun shit... and i keep kicking myself for leaving cinematography to do this fan-dangled multimedia/internet thing which has stuck me behind a computer for the best part of a decade... its great getting outdoors and trying stuff out...

get yourself a bunch of filters.... cokin used to make a whole bunch of creative filters that werent too expensive... most of the effects you could do in photoshop these days except shit like polarizing and Neutral Density... ah used to love their tobacco grads as well...

shit your making me want to get back into this stuff

there's alot of stuff I'd love to shoot..... more than just scenery.... love to shoot action shots..... both are plentiful here..... but I think I might need some different types of cameras for some of that stuff..... my digital isn't too quick for action shot/sports shooting type stuff.....

Same here. We went to Yosemite a few weekends ago, I dusted of the Bronica, and the Nikon F5.

As of lately I've been really wanting to get back into it. I take pics around the house. I'm into abstract stuff, mostly because that's all there is around here.

AMP for speed. Get yourself a NikonF5. It's one bad ass mutha fucka. Heavy, but fast as hell. I've never seena faster autofocus. You can whip it up to your eye, focus, and snap off 8 shots in a row with out missing the action.

My F5 has an 80-200 zoom. I think it's pretty bad ass. I'd like to get a longer and a faster lens like a 28mm I just love wide angle shit. I used to have an F3 and I had a 180 filter lens for it. I took some crazy pics with it.

I think taking a 28MM and going parasailing would make some nice bird's eye images. Especially on Maui. Or a 28 - 50 from Haleakala.... MMmmmm

the odd thing is, I've had cameras for as long as I can remember... and digitals since they first appeared.... I had one of the first... a Kodak Phot something or other.... probly still here collecting dust somewhere. Slower than dirt. No memory.

But it's not like I just got a new camera and got all gung ho about it.... I've had this tight ass Nikon for a while now.... but I just really started taking a new interest in the actual photos rather than the camera itself about 8 months ago.... and I started shooting everything.. knives... cheese..... the neighbors cat.... everything.

This shit seems so complex to me..... I've read these photography books forwards ad backwards..... and it's still complex. I wish I could just absorb all this shit and put it to use....

I think I got a couple good ones out of the batch... and I got a few Hana Road shots that should be fair... nothing spectacular though..... I do have some of the Olivine Pools up on NW side... rare shit... not many people can get into that place as deep as I got..... should be some good stuff...

You just don't know when to quit do you.

You have no idea how bad I miss it. I just picked up a bunch of "start your own business" books today. Plus someone posted a link a few days a go to a site where you can buy your own business. There was a 50's diner right down the road from you I think... (ok well, not to far from you)

At this point, I'd be a cane field worker, If I knew we could make enough money at it. We actually spoke of getting a place there. (it was a big break thru for me) Mrs. RedShoe just never wanted to even talk about moving back there. But today... we spoke.

Having a child definitely changes your life around.
