To you old schoolers, do you think this industry is pretty much recession proof?

It was 10 years ago, before people fucked it up by giving shit away for free.... Now it will take a hit just like everything else, if things get tough, people will buy food or gas for the car first, rather than a porn membership...Last edited by woj; 10-10-2008, 03:35 PM.Custom Software Development, email: woj#at#wojfun#.#com to discuss details or skype: wojl2000 or gchat: wojfun or telegram: wojl2000

recession proof? People are being denied credit right and left and small business owners are panicking and closing up shops and laying off people and jobs by the thousands are being lost and hours of work for those who are employed are being cut and they are being asked to take pay cuts instead of being let go and families are only buying what they absolutely need.....If you believe Porn is within workingman's or unemployed mans budget then you are a fool - Viva Redtube.comComment

It depends on how bad things get. If it is a full on depression like situation where we have 15-20% unemployment and soup lines we could get hit hard, but right now must of what is happening is paper loss. People's 401K's and investments are losing value, but most people still have a job and a house and a pretty normal life. In the end we are a pretty cheap item so we are one of the last things to be cut out of budgets. Right now people are not buying $1500 big screens and taking big vacations or buying new cars, they are still spending money going to the movies, buying music, books and porn. If things continue to slide that will change.
As was stated above though the amount of free porn now available makes it a lot easier for the average guy to get off without having to pay so it could hurt us more than it normally would. I guess on the bright side the tubes will be making nothing either so maybe it would force them the change or close up.Comment

"Give them a 'peek-behind-the-curtain'. Meaning - make your paying customers feel as though they've part of the privileged "backstage" crowd...part of the extended family that can interact with the talent (and producer).
Provide them with an experience that makes them think they're part-of-the-process with access to stuff the freebie-hunters don't get. Project the image that you're approachable and build a personable rapport with faithful members.
We've enjoyed numerous paying members on our sites that have renewed monthly without interruption since 2001. Along the way we've custom-tailored some of our shoots according to requests and whatnot. We've offered behind-the-scenes shoots and interacted on a daily basis via Yahoo and Google groups with a lot of our customers.
What I'm saying is - splashing up a bunch of photosets on a website is only part of the equation. You have to think of it all from a real-life retail perspective and create the illusion of pseudo-intimacy. Blogs help...but don't cut it entirely.Comment

Dude you better watch the news you are not in touch with reality at allIt depends on how bad things get. Most likely the hit will be hardest at first, that is, as long as things don't totally fall apart. Eventually the shock will wear off and CNN won't be reporting about it 24/7 and people will start to return to their normal habits (provided they still have jobs).you don't know you're wearing a leash if you sit by the peg all day..Comment

I pay pretty close attention to the news. I read several websites and watch the news throughout the day. There has been a ton of stuff about the bloodbath on wall street, but I haven't heard much of anything about people getting laid off in mass because of businesses closing. There is a lot of speculation that this could happen if things don't turn around, but it hasn't happened yet as far as I have seen. If you know of something different, I would love to see it. I don't claim to know it all, I'm just going off of what I see and hear.
Things could get very ugly. But things could be okay too. One thing that works in the favor of things getting better is the G7 summit. The US is not the only country hurting, much of the world is as well. It is in the world's best interest to fix some of the things that have gone wrong and get things back on the correct path, but there is no guarantee that it will happen or happen with any amount of speed.
I believe many economist when they say that 2009 will be a year of recession, but as long as things are done properly not depression. I guess I am curious what you think I am out of touch with?Comment

Right now we are in the 9/11 type mode. When that attack happened everyone just stopped what they were doing and started at the TV screen around the clock. After a few weeks things started getting back to normal. If the stock market starts a slow rebound and the bailout plus the free market and whatever else happens helps to loosen up the credit markets the news will get better and the news will stop sounding like the apocalypse news network and scaring the shit out of everyone.Comment
