His father wasn't a muslim. His father was an atheist by the time he reached college. Nonetheless, he hardly ever saw his father. I believe he saw him once after the age of two before his death.

He also wasn't raised a Muslim. His Mother was an atheist as well. He spent his life from age 10 to graduation with his Grandmother who was a Christian. The school he did study at in Jakarta was a secular, public school. A lot of Americans living abroad have kids that go there since it's in a wealthy neighborhood. Nonetheless, he was there for 3 years until 4th grade.

Maybe he feels, as the Constitution / Supreme Court, that there is a separation of church and state. What one calls their religion, doesn't call their religion, hides about their religion, et al, is up to them, and has nothing to do with you, me or America. Whether that "one" be the President, or the bag boy at the grocery store.

Why you, and many other Americans, are so hung up on this issue, is beyond me. My vote goes to who I think is more capable of leading this country out of turmoil, and bringing our once-great nation back to the top of the totem pole. If you feel that person in McCain, then by all means vote for him. My only hope is that when you, and other Americans decide to vote for him, it is not because part of the Republican spin machine "got you", but it is because you think McCain is better suited to lead.

Had Obama just come out and been straight up with the American people on this issue, it would have put this issue to an end. All he had to do was explain that his father and step father were muslim, that these men taught him the islamic values when he was a child, but that he rejected it and identified with Christianity, which he still practices til the present. It's not that fucking hard to figure out.
